Even without a memory, the world is a dark and damned place.
There are things around us that regular people don’t know about....
I know those things.
I’ve done those things.
It’s the way of this world when you’re on the throne.
This temple is rightfully mine.
I am the crown.
This isn’t just my life.
It’s my soul.
My empire.
My fortress.
And her.
She’s too sweet, so innocent, so naïve to the world around her and I want to immerse myself in it.
But there is an ill twist hanging in the air.
Maximo is alive.
Unfortunately.
And I want him dead, but I am more devious than that.
My brother took too much from me.
I have to build everything from the ground up because he tarnished it.

Mateo has spent many months locked away in his own mind. After suffering life threatening injuries in a hotel bombing he has been in recovery with the Ruthless Kings Vegas chapter, unable to recall anything from his past life. When terrible events cause a rift in his family Mateo decides It's time to take matters into his own hands. As he tries to rebuild his life, distraction comes in the form of a naive young woman, Nora, who happens to be his daughter's new friend. Mateo is entranced by the sweet and innocent Nora and will stop at nothing to show his Stellina that they are meant to be together.
This was a surprisingly low angst story with lots of steam and sex. Nora may start out innocent but it's amazing how she opens up after a few intense encounters with Mateo.
The male narrator was new to me and initially felt a little old for the character, but he handled the content well and does a great job with the Italian language and accent (fair warning I am not fluent in Italian so this is just IMO from third party experience). There did seem to be a disconnect with the narration when Mateo wasn't actually talking (it seemed to be almost third person omniscient even though it was first person) because the accent was only present when Mateo spoke. This is a style I wasn't used to so it took a bit to get into it, but once I did it was fine. I have only heard the female narrator a few times so I knew she would do well with Nora. The writing and the performances worked well together and created a great framework for the new series. 4/5 story, 3/5 narration.

Mateo’s character has always been intriguing but getting to read/hear his story, it made me love and respect him more! The man is yummy!

Worth a credit? No sadly it’s not for me this time.. I really tried a few times to get into this story but unfortunately failed each and every time and I eventually stopped it towards the end because it was just more and more of the same lust-filled chapters. IMO, Antonio’s narration didn’t fit and he seemed too old for the part.. which may have made it more icky than sexy too. And, if you’re new to this author’s work - IMO, don’t start with this one.
JUST NO.. AND SO DISAPPOINTING
