About this listen

In Masquerade by Nancy Moser—the Christy Award winning author of How Do I Love Thee?—Charlotte Gleason embarks from England in 1886 with mixed feelings. Although she’s never met her fiancé, she's headed for New York to marry one of America’s wealthiest heirs. Filled with doubts and hoping for a chance at “real life”, she swaps identities with her maid, Dora. For Dora, it’s the chance of a lifetime. But for Charlotte, what begins as the whim of a spoiled rich girl becomes a test of survival beyond her darkest dreams.

For the faithful.

Not to my taste. Too unrealistic to much sweetness and innocence.
I don't wish to be preached to.

Historically in a place and time I’ve never read about before.

Longer than I expected but can not be considered slow. Great characters and plot. Touches on the heartache of a time our country was in great turmoil and how many people dealt with the heartaches caused by poverty.

Good story

I became interested in the story soon enough, but I wasn’t sure I liked the characters In the beginning. Lottie is a spoiled rich girl who can be selfish at times, and Dora was annoying at times too. But as the story grew, so did my liking for them. That’s not to say that I didn’t become frustrated with them and their decisions, but I found myself wrapped up in the plot and hoping for a good outcome. I would’ve liked a little more in the ending, and a little more romance. But overall, the book was worth a credit for me.

What a great storyline

I love the very believable twists and turns of the story and characters. It was great fun listening to (watching) both Dora and Lottie grow into themselves. How great works God does. “If you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans”

Masquerade Review

MASQUERADE had a great story line with a wonderful spiritual message. It was very unusual and not so predictable. Nancy Moser does keep your interest with her writing style and story line. I plan to purchase more of her books. I also want to coment on what a terrific narrator Barbara Caruso is. I love her voice it has so much expression. I have heard her read many times and always look forward to listening to books that she narrates. Most inspirational fiction listeners will be entertained every minute of this fine book.

Great Historical Fiction read by the perfect voice

I enjoy Nancy Moser's work immensely having discovered her this summer at the library. I love that she had 2 audio books done for these stories and that they even tied together with some of the same characters. The ending seemed rushed even though it was a great ending. Really, I just wanted to enjoy the characters a bit longer after spending so much time with them previous.
Good job. I am hoping for more audio books by this author.

entertaining...but lost some luster...

Overall I had a good time listening to this novel. At moments it reminds me some of Jane Austen and yet it lacked a bit of the depth. I was intrigued by the idea of the story but was sad that the ending middle was so fast. I felt like the characters never really met their full potential even though its a "happy ending" it felt a bit dull at the end like all the potential was drawn short. I guess I just wanted more.

But was it entertaining...yes. Did it capture me at times...yes. I just wanted more.

Pretty good story

Too religious for my taste, but overall a good long story with exactly the outcome you’d expect in a Jane Austen-ish plot.

Wonderful love story with a twist

The book kept me engaged from the beginning to the end. The characters came alive and the story was full of vivid words, great feeling and history.
