About this listen

Another timeless story about Mary Poppins, the world's most exciting nanny, and her magical adventures with the Banks family.

From the moment Mary Poppins arrives at Number Seventeen Cherry-Tree Lane, everyday life at the Banks house is forever changed. Jane, Michael, and the twins have never had such a wonderful nanny, who brings enchantment and excitement everywhere she goes.

In Mary Poppins Opens the Door, Mary Poppins reappears just in time! According to her tape measure, Jane and Michael have grown "Worse and Worse" since she went away. But the children won't have time to be naughty with all that Mary has planned for them. A visit to Mr. Twigley's music box – filled attic, an encounter with the Marble Boy, and a ride on Miss Calico's enchanted candy canes are all part of an average day out with everyone's favorite nanny.

No syrupy nanny here

(As posted in Goodreads)
I do so like Mary Poppins character in the PL Travers books! Although she is not so obviously sappy and syrupy as characterized in the movie, she is a lot more fun to play with and build on mentally!
This is the third of the series, and I still love it – YEARS later!
I suppose I actually like the first two better, but this one's no slouch i

Good book, but...

This book was interesting. I don't like the way the narrator talks. In my opinion, her voice is very gritty sounding. It makes it sound like she's blaming everything on the children. I also don't like how Mary Poppins says the crazy things that happened didn't happen. Like how she fell out of the sky, and then later told the children that that was obviously something that would never happen to her. She actually was kind of mean about it. Mary Poppins also was very vain, cruel, prideful, and more! Not at all how you would expect a children's nanny to be. I definitely prefer the first two books to this one. Sophie Thompson, who was the narrator of the first two books is so much better than this narrator.

Who knew Mary Poppins is good for adults too!

The writing is amazing. I swear I can actually see the things and scenes because the author describes them do vividly! And there are lots of double entendres just like there are in Pixar movies. Last but not least, narrator Rosalind Landor is one of my all time favs!

grows on you

At first my seven year old daughter was baffled and shocked by how stern Mary Poppins is, but by book three we loved her and were very amused... perfect magical adventures for a seven year old, parents are rather ridiculous!

Follows The Formula

I enjoyed the retelling of the fairy tales and how Mary Poppins leaves more the final time. Glad that for the third book there's no attempt to be sneaky about it this time around. This book also reminds me why Jane and Michael's siblings are omitted from the movie adaptation.

Imagination at its Best!

Just finishing the third book of Mary Poppins leaves me wanting to start the fourth right away! The characters and settings are artfully described. I only wish a grownup could have read these books to me as a child when the imagination is ripe! KJSPettit
