Amazing work from Crowley. Should have had a different narrator.

You should at least have a general knowledge of the occult to narrate a book like this. Nothing but mispronunciation after mispronunciation. He even calls “Thelema” “Thelma”.

it did sound a little monotone. But had all the words necessary to convey the message.

It’s unfortunate that someone who sounds like they have never come near an esoteric subject before chose to read this book, I tried to push past it but it is pretty frustrating how this isread. The mispronunciations are not the end of it, the dryness in which it is read is unbearable. Not my kind of intonation.

The Worst Grammatical Performance I've Ever Heard

Unfortunately the poor pronunciation of so many words throughout the book left me feeling more frustrated and turned off than open like it's good to be while reading something like this. I'm guessing this didn't have an editor during the recording process and if it did, the editor was just as unaware of the butchering of countless words throughout this book. The narrator's voice was fine and it could've been great overall but not only did I find the performance annoying from a perfectionist point of view but I honestly feel like it could be confusing to people who might be learning these terms for the first time and the incorrect pronunciation actually has the potential to mislead listeners. For these reasons, I think the narration is among the worst I've heard, the book took me - no joke - 5 times longer to get through than normal because I was so frustrated by the amateur performance (which I realize is largely a personal issue but nonetheless I see many people were unhappy for the same reasons) and I firmly believe it should be taken down and either corrected by the narrator who, like I mentioned, had a nice voice, or given to the hands of one who can understand how to pronounce words properly or look up how to instead of just guessing out of their rear and spitting in the wind. Awful, awful grammar. Unbearably bad.

The reader has a good voice and reads at a nice pace, but some of the pronunciation is cringeworthy and grating to the ears.

There might be some words that get mispronounced with regularity, but the wealth of knowledge found within this book is still readily available for the ears ready to hear it!

Now when you read other comments

...and know what obstacles you will encounter while studying, do not feel intimidated. With minimum persistence you will find the proper pronunciation of some mispronounced names which appear not so often in the reading and even if not , AI of a search engine will correct your attempts to follow further immediately. Invaluable content of the book remains intact by small faults of a human being.

Laugh out loud pronunciation

The Book is the apex and crown jewel of Crowley’s writings. The narration is so full of mispronunciation that it sounds like a cruel prank. How this person was ever allowed to read this aloud into a microphone is beyond me.

the content was amazing but the pronunciation from the sky was pretty bad. make sure you're saying the words right.

Classic text, poor narration

Arguably the single most important work of Aleister Crowley. I was happy to find it here on Audible, but this narrator seems to have a tenuous grasp on English. From one point forward in the book, "magus" is pronounced "magnus." Surely the publisher can find an average thelemite to read it properly. If you are interested, I will record the entire book myself for free! A black smudge on a product that should necessarily be available on Audible.
