A Work of Art

I wish the director and narrator/ lead actress from this series could put all my favorite fantasy books into graphic audio format. I’ve listened to countless graphic audio productions, and I don’t know if GA knows how lucky they are to have a director who works so hard to make sure that the finished product is true to the source material. This whole series has been so well done, but this audiobook was a work of art. Thank you for making the House Andrews books come alive with integrity.

Amazing!!!

In an attempt to avoid spoilers, I’m going to be vague in my review. This book all the action! The individual story in this book was intriguing and twisty, plus the continuation of the ongoing storyline was so interesting. Relationships between the main characters with some of the side characters continue to develop. This book explained more about some characters and some took action and redeem themselves, in my eyes. Some characters’ actions were despicable and I thought they were worse than I had after reading in previous books.

I enjoyed everything about this book and this series. I have re-discovered these books thanks to the new GraphicAudio narrations. They truly bring the characters and the stories to life in a real way. Highly recommend!!

I wish this book series would become a movie or TV show. Such an amazing read/listen.

THE BEST ONE YET KEEP THEM COMING!!!!

It’s one of my favorite books from the series! To experience it in this new way has been life changing! The Action the mystery and tension never miss! And the MUSIC?!?!?!?! Combined with the voice actors I was practically living in the story. You can delve into this world like your playing a video game and I’m always down to Clown!!!!

The original was great, but this version blew me away..

Wow! I still love the original narrator, but this version with a whole cast? Deadly!

Favorite one

All the books in this series are great but this one is my favorite. Curran’s love, Kate’s powers, and all their struggles and challenges to just be together is amazing. The narration cast does a fantastic job ! I do recommend you read/listen to the previous books in the series before starting this one.

Amazing

Perfectly executed in all regards bar one: I expected Roland’s voice to sound a little wiser and godlike. Nevertheless an exceptional book, as I already knew. Well worth the credit.

Curran: “I’m going to kill him!”
Kate: “Dibs.”
Finally, in Book 7, Kate Daniels and her dad meet. This fails as a standalone; you really need to read the prior books to enjoy this one because the best parts are the ways the characters grow and interact.
But trust me- working thru from book 1 is worth it.

“If you ever decide on a career change, I would avoid motivational speaking.”
Especially in the first half, the story was rather depressing. Kate and company face ever growing dangers without the presence of Curran, Jim, or Raphael. Every confrontation is met with pain, loss, and failure. And there’s lots of exposition, soliloquy’s, and philosophical discussions between various characters on the meaning of life, revenge, and power.

The resolution of the main plot was also a bit frustrating- without the cathartic, and gigantic, kicking of asses that I’ve come to expect from Kate and Curran. Don’t get me wrong, there’s still some battle, blood, and sass. But it still felt like the climax deflated like a balloon. Maybe it’s because it was like the Kate Daniels show… with her singlehandedly winning battles instead of the team (or pack) effort that I’ve come to expect.

It’s ironic. Book 7 is like the penultimate story, offering an end to several story arcs begun in
Book 1 (Kate meets her dad, Atlanta learns who Kate is, and course changing decisions are made).
Yet it wasn’t the ending I enjoyed, it was the journey... or rather the side stories and mini-capers.

Derek: “How do you want to do this?”
Ascanio: “I can give it a shot.”
Derek: “Sit your A down, Don Juanabe!”
My favorite parts were the humor and action sequences, like the Ascanio and Derek banter,
Dessandra’s craziness, or getting to know Gastec. Several of the reveals, like when Gastec finally sees what Kate can do with vampires, had me grinning and savoring the surprise bombs. Drop the mic Kate!

Kate: “Before you start dancing, know we don’t have any cash.”
Dessandra: “Woo! Take it off!”
All in all, not in my top 3 for this series, and yet still an outstanding listen. The graphic audio version of the book shortens the length by a third (almost five hours worth). Plus, I loved the bonus scenes from Curran’s and then Jim’s POV.

Perfection!!!

I loved everything about these GA versions!!! The voices are how I imagined the characters, especially Curran.

okay, gotta get this one out of the way: THEY TOOK OUT ONE OF MY FAVORITE INTERACTIONS (Ghastek: I demand an explanation! Robert: let me know how that goes for you, I've been demanding an explanation for the last two weeks. Jim: you're not in a position to demand anything! Robert: me?!?! Jim: no, him!)

that aside I was pleased on pretty much every count for this one. Roland was simultaneously scary and shockingly normal all at once, which was great. Nora Sofyan killed it as always. Robert's 'death' was somehow just as sad as the first time I read the book years ago. Ghastek cracked me up. I also very much enjoyed Ascanio's voice as well. And finally I'd like to just thank GA for not giving any of the queer guys characters a stereotypical 'gay man' voice, because I was slightly afraid of that.

All in all, good work on pretty much the most pivotal book in the series. A lot happened and this adaptation tackled it very well.
