About this listen

Three siblings searching for the truth about their family are about to find more than they bargained for. . . .

When shy and reserved Maggie Ferringer is called for jury duty, she never expects to be kidnapped by an escaped convict. But when Cain Cannon, disguised as a prison guard, pulls a gun, she has no choice but to be taken hostage. Cain claims that he’s innocent of killing his girlfriend six years ago, and now he wants revenge on the people who put him behind bars.

Soon Maggie becomes more than just a hostage to Cain. As they slowly begin to share the secrets of their respective pasts, Maggie discovers that she wants to fight for Cain’s freedom - because he just might be the kind of man she can love.

Good one. I spent the whole day listening. I could not seem to stop listening.

Kept my attention!!

It was absolutely my fault that, when I saw Lisa Gardner's name, I didn't think to see if the pseudonym meant a different genre. I'm more of a Detective Sargent D.D. Warren kind of girl than a 27-year-old virgin falling in desperate love with her captor in one day type. However, Kate Rudd's narration was outstanding. She's got kind of an Audrey Hepburn thing going on, and she delivered all the different character voices so well. I'm off to find more books she's voiced (and hope they're not all romance. Ugh.

My bad, but UGGGGGH

This was like a teen romance. I like Garner’s murder Mystery. Not this whiny romance.

Whining romance

I am a huge fan of Lisa Gardner but this book honestly left me disappointed as it reads more like a romance novel than a thriller. The majority of the book felt like scenes of lust and desire, which I don't mind sprinkled in, but this book never really felt suspenseful or thrilling to me.

Reads more romantic than suspenseful

What did you like best about Maggie's Man? What did you like least?

Lisa Gardner's mysteries are usually among my favorites, but the Family Secrets series does not meet her usual high standards. Maggie''s Man was apparently written during the early days of Gardner's career, when she had not yet found her proper voice. This book has far too much panting, moaning and underwear-shedding for my taste.

Would you recommend Maggie's Man to your friends? Why or why not?

No - too embarrassing.

Any additional comments?

Give me more plot and fewer long, drawn-out sex scenes.

Too Much Bodice- and Boxer-Ripping

I feel that the narrator for this book was exceptional. She did every voice perfect. The storyline was also interesting, it had a little twist in it, also had a little bit of humor it was very enjoyable!

The narrator made this book exceptional!!

I liked this book because I have never read a book from a hostage perspective, usually I read stories from the detective’s perspective.
Maggie may be too good to be true, but then this is a work of fiction. I could have done without the sex scenes but they were well written.

A New Perspective
