It can’t happen to me, it can’t! This collection of stories is not about dreams, horrifying though they might be, it is about nightmares becoming reality; the sort of world where God isn’t present; there is no reprieve from the cyclone of the worst of your imaginations. Fear is the oldest of most primate emotions, which plays upon the person more from within the mind than by external forces. The worst of fears is the fear of the unknown. A gush of adrenaline thrills and excites a person to make it worth their reading time. That’s the reason for books in the genre of horrors and thrillers are most loved by the readers because they tickle their minds for some real impact as they read to fulfil their passion.
This anthology comprising ten hard hitting tales from ten different authors differs from the other books as it aims to bring before the readers a variety of flavours of distinct style of writing and to bring forth unique creative imaginations around which these fictions are spun. Each story takes on the readers’ mind with a new perspective. The Raven from Satadal is set up in the English gothic era while on the contrast, Love in a Crosshair by me is a hard-hitting account of social atrocity in India. Midnight Alarms by Bikash is soaked in flavour of Imperialism while Jhano Oraon by Kujur is an earthy, rustic, tribal story. Papuan Curse by Sonam has gory scenes of blood curdling incidents, while Who’s It by Deepti describes how an obsession of the mind can destroy oneself. Tanmay brings out how a devil is resurrected with a high voltage drama on the global stage while Praty Usha delves into the dark mysteries of a royal mansion. Kar presents a horrid experience from a graveyard while Valentina paints a dark experience of teenaged girls.
It takes a lot of grit and patience to brew a horror fiction in the mind and shape it into a perfect story to be savored by the readers of this genre and it is equally challenging to get the acts together for almost a dozen authors. Thankfully, my friend Satadal Lahiri always held my back to turn my efforts into reality. I also express my deep gratitude to all the authors who have contributed their stories. It is further envisaged to bring more volumes in this series, comprising more authors with fresh perspectives, so the readers shall be constantly provided with good stories to read.
I promise to my readers that this book shall be un-put-down-able because of its freshness and uniqueness. The deliberate arrangement of stories shall stir and control your emotional upheavals grip your attention throughout the ebbs and tides.
