About this listen

It's World War II and Ludwika Gierz, a young Polish woman, is forced to leave her family and go to Nazi Germany to work for an SS officer. There, she must walk a tightrope, learning to live as a second-class citizen in a world where one wrong word could spell disaster and every day could be her last. Based on real events, this is a story of hope amid despair, of love amid loss...ultimately, it's one woman's story of survival.

So many struggles due to war

Good read. My mother-in-law had a similar story. This gave me an expanded appreciation of her struggles.

Good story of citizens of countryside

I became engrossed in this woman's life. What choices would I have made? How can men be so cruel? Why did it take so long for the world to come to their rescue!

Flat, boring and unemotional

What disappointed you about Ludwika: A Polish Woman's Struggle to Survive in Nazi Germany?

The narrator was terrible! I got the kindle version for free and the audio was $2.99 with it. Wish I'd listened to the sample first! I tried to read the kindle version and it was just superficial and lacked any real depth or feeling.

What was most disappointing about Christoph Fischer’s story?

I've read many Holocaust and World War II stories, both true and fiction and that time was deeply emotional for all involved. This book just did not capture any of that. The main character feels forced to go off with a German soldier that she cares nothing for and leaves her daughter behind, which doesn't seem to upset her much either. I couldn't even finish the kindle version and couldn't even begin the audio version after I heard the narrator.

Would you be willing to try another one of Tessa Petersen’s performances?

NO!

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

The total lack of depth to the story was dissapointing.

Any additional comments?

Don't even bother with this one.
