About this listen

This homage to a by-gone era of classic "Detective Noir" stories is a fun and exciting journey through the streets of L.A. in 1945. Lucky is returning home from World War II to restart his life up as a L.A.P.D. cop, when a case nobody wants lead him on a journey of self discovery he will never forget. Love, lust, and lamentation, travel beside Lucky through intrigue, mystery and murder, all conspiring to turn a hero into another gritty L.A. shamus reminiscent of Sam Spade or Philip Marlowe.

This will keep you on the edge of your seat!

Where does Lucky rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This book is at the very top of my listening experience. I couldn't stop listening, it keeps you wanting more.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Lucky?

In the chapter the hook, I loved the romance seen between Lucky and Trixie and how they came together.

Have you listened to any of Roberto Scarlato’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

His deep voice in this book was amazing..

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me feel sorry for some of the characters. Lucky's struggle between himself was amazing and in the end I felt he came full circle and I was extreme overjoyed by the whole experience.

Any additional comments?

This is a must listen to book. You have mystery and suspense for the time period it was written and is outstanding. I would recommend it to everyone young and old. Great job and well done!!

Fantastic Listen!! Excellent crime-noir story!

What made the experience of listening to Lucky the most enjoyable?

Lucky flows extremely well from beginning to end. It's the perfect length to listen to on an airline flight or a few hours travel in the car. I was transported back to post WWII and loved the mystery-drama of Lucky's first case! Looking forward to the next one!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Lucky?

The scene when Lucky and Jack are interviewing Tony, a small time mobster really resonated. The dialogue is snappy between all three men and enjoyed the under currents between Lucky and his partner.

What does Roberto Scarlato bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Roberto has that late 40's style deep noir voice that really helps to bring the story alive!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Lucky's revelation toward the end of the book really put the wow! on the story. Sharing his "Aha!" moment and the thoughts leading up to it was just as eye opening for me as it was for him.

Any additional comments?

This is a novel worth listening to! The story content and the narrative work extremely well together and I hope to hear/read more about Lucky (would love a story on Trixie also!)
