About this listen

A little magickal mischief never hurt anyone....

Erik MacGregor is from a clan of ancient Scottish warlocks. He isn't looking for love. After centuries, it's not even a consideration...until he moves in next door to Lydia Barratt. It's clear that the shy beauty wants nothing to do with him, but he's drawn to her and determined to win her over.

The last thing Lydia Barratt needs is a demanding Scottish man meddling in her private life. Just because he's gorgeous and totally rocks a kilt doesn't mean she's going to fall for his seductive manner.

But Erik won't give up and just as Lydia lets her guard down, his sister decides to get involved. Her little love potion prank goes terribly wrong, making Lydia the target of his sudden embarrassingly obsessive behavior. They'll have to find a way to pull Erik out of the spell fast when it becomes clear that Lydia has more than a lovesick warlock to worry about.

Warning: Contains yummy, hot, mischievous MacGregors who may or may not be wielding love potion magick in an effort to prank their older brother, and who are almost certainly up to no good on their quest to find true love.

Excellent..

I was totally confused by this book. The first 30% was just so full of sex talk and sex thoughts I thought that was how the whole story was going to be, and I was so bummed about that. I was so wrong! After 30% it became all about the story, and until they had sex late in the book, there were very little thoughts about sex, though there was some, and there was a part where the sex was done by one’s self, if you know what I mean.

I loved Erik and Lydia. They were such a great couple, with no angst and no goofy misunderstandings. That always makes for a good read.

I liked the secondary characters, too: Gramma Annabelle, Lydia’s dead grandmother, Charlotte, Lydia’s BFF, Euann, Iain, Niall, and Rory, Erik’s brothers’, and Malina, Erik’s sister. What a fun and funny group of siblings they were. Some of the pranks they pulled on each other were just crazy. I like Erik’s parents, Angus and Margareta, too. There was a lot going on with this book and it was not only funny it was also very exciting. I thought Lydia’s hitting the bad guy over the head with a skillet was pretty good. And what happened before that was a terrific part of the story, too.

I liked that Erik is a warlock and Lydia’s grandmother was a witch but Lydia didn’t believe in any of that. It was nice watching her find out all about it. There were a couple of times I found myself LMAO! Parts of the book were so funny but I don’t think they would have been nearly as funny if I hadn’t been listening to it. And let me tell you, if it’s at all possible you should all buy the book as well as the Audible version. The narrator is just phenomenal. Even the sample on Audible is hysterical, go listen to it.

As I said, there was sexual tension and one sex scene, and the F-bomb was used 11 times. If you don’t like sex and swearing don’t buy this author.

As to the narrator: Best male narration I’ve ever heard. He laughed like crazy. He whispered, yelled, anything called for he did. AND the women couldn’t have sounded more female with even a woman doing their voices. He was amazing!

Lotions and potions

This is one of my favorite series. Lydia makes lotions she sells. She lives down from an old mansion no one has lived in for years. She soon has a new neighbor in a Scottish man who bought it with his clan. Strange things start to take place , along with her grandmother’s ghost appearing. The new neighbors are warlocks. This was so hilarious at times. Intense at others when her life is threatened. It was also steamy hot! I loved the narrator.

Welcome to the MacGregors

Lydia has lived in Green Vallace all her life, but her new neighbours, the MacGregors, are about to turn her world upside down. Erik is completely dreamy, but with him comes the realization that magic is real. I love love love these books, revisiting often, and having Michael Ferraiuolo give everyone in the story their unique voice is a complete treat. A fantastic listen.

Meet the MacGregors!

Erik is a warlock tasked by his ancient warlock clan to find them a new home. Everything is going according to plan until he meets Lydia, the girl next door. Lydia makes soap and candles, and has been growing some of her herbs on the land Erik has just purchased. They run into each other on the property, and the attraction is immediate. It’s also eventually augmented by a love potion that turns Erik into an obsessive, (tone-deaf) serenading suitor.

Along with the cute romance, there are some scary bits involving shadow creatures, a friendly family ghost, and the various -- and often interfering -- members of the clan, who each have their own very clever magical abilities. The plot is witty, the dangerous bad guys handled with dispatch, and the HEA is guaranteed. But getting to know the warlock family members in this series is a lot of the fun, because, of course, all the bros and cousins are gorgeous Highlanders, so what’s not to love?

This was my first Michelle Pillow read, and I’ve gone on to purchase a few more for those days when I just want to get away from the intensity of the more involved books I read. She’s perfect for when I want to listen to something lighter, but still entertaining. Stories I can easily pick up and put down without a big commitment, and just enjoy them.

This book fit the bill nicely, as did the 2nd in this series.

Here is a writer who knows what she is about, and what her strengths are. She writes sweet, funny and lightly romantic books that are witty and easy to read. There is a sex scene, but I don’t remember it being all that hot — or not so that it stood out from the general light tone of the romance.

The reader is Michael Ferraiuolo, and this is my first time listening to him. I thought he was amazing with this book, and I particularly applaud his Scots brogue, and 'Erik's' off-tune singing. It was painfully hilarious!

Supernatural Chaos

There are a few parts of this story that make me wonder when it was originally published - I know that it has been on my TBR list for a while - because it feels...off. I tried to ignore & keep reading.

Luckily, I enjoyed the narrator. The story was difficult for me in certain areas but I think they would have been less an issue at a different time in my life. There were some surprises.

Overall I enjoyed it - regardless of my difficulties. The characters are interesting and there seems to be a lot of stories to come. A couple of the characters I really want to know what happens.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

The first bookinthis series and it will have you laughing at some of things these men get up to. Erik MacGregor a cat shifter and human Lydia Barratt's well written suspense filled story held my interest as I listened to Michael Ferraiuolo narrate their story.
