About this listen

Adam Cox and Rex Conner, the brother and uncle of Lori Daybell, have had their family torn apart by Lori's lies, which ultimately cost at least four innocent people their lives.

Just a few short months before the killing started, Lori spoke casually with Adam in her kitchen one day, but what she told him frightened him to his core.

“I don’t have to eat ever again,” Lori said, her gaze locked on Adam, “and if you shoot me, the bullet won’t hurt me. My body has almost completed the process of becoming immortal.”

So begins the often bizarre, almost unbelievable tale of Lori Daybell, as told by two of the people who know her best: Adam Cox and Rex Conner. What follows is the hauntingly tragic account of Lori Daybell's transformation from loving sister, daughter, niece, wife, and mother to murderous manipulator.

Throughout the book, Adam weaves together stories about growing up with Lori. He then takes the listener through her four marriages and three divorces, as Lori welcomes her children into her heart and homes. Adam identifies several behaviors and patterns that may offer insight into Lori's actions and her beliefs. Uncle Rex offers wisdom as he seeks to answer the question: WHY would anyone commit such travesties? And HOW could someone become so estranged from her own internal guidance system that she can't hear it at all?

Ultimately this is a book about healing. It is about the process of finding grace and meaning by sharing and normalizing stories of pain and despair. It is about recognizing silver linings as precious gifts. It is about celebrating the redeeming love of friendship and community.

I loved hearing the authors voices

I enjoyed reading this book and hearing it was even better! I love Adam and Rex and appreciate all the work they put into writing this book. It’s impossible not to cry along with them as they choke up telling their stories. I love their perspectives on hope and healing following this horrific family tragedy.

How much Rex and Adam not only cared about Tylee and JJ, but they care about the things going on in their optimist’s lives too.

I read the paperback and have listened to the audio book. It is heartbreaking and uplifting at the same time! I love the vulnerability and the openness & honesty of their story.

What stood put the most is the true emotion that was shown and felt.

There wasn't any part that I did not like. I love the honesty of Adam and Rex. I can't imagine the emotions when you have to face the reality of what your family members have done. Tragic, all the way around.

Loved that Rex and Adam did the narration

I have followed this case and their podcast from the beginning and thought I was all cried out...But when Adam talked about picking up Lori... The emotion in his voice broke my heart. I think it's easy to forget that Lori is a loved family member. It is beautiful how they let total strangers express their emotions concerning this case without anger or judgment. Thanks for caring and sharing on your podcast & I loved the book!

Grace and healing

I’ve followed this story from when Nate Eaton asked Lori and Chad in Hawaii, “ Where’s the children?” This book (especially the audible version) offers an inside story to Lori’s life and its profound effect on her own family. I wept at Adam and Zac’s story for the sense of betrayal, abandonment, and tragic loss. However, there are bright lights in this story. I appreciate Uncle Rex’s willingness to make himself vulnerable by speaking to the media and also to speak with Adam in the launch of their podcast “Silver Linings”. Prayers for continued healing for all the brokenhearted.

Raw Honesty

This. Book. Is. Incredible! Having just concluded listening to this I find I'm overwhelmed. The Silver Lining podcast has been such a source of healing for me as I listen to Gruncle Rex and Adam process through the insanity that they and their family have been thrust into due to no fault of their own. In my humble opinion, Rex and Adam are the epitome of true men by their willingness to talk OPENLY about the raw, gritty details - sometimes through tears. They're not stuffing down their emotions as they run to their recliners to internally rot away the rest of their lives in hurt and anger. Take time to listen, really listen, as they give their reason for working so hard to get this podcast out to us and write this heart-wrenching book. if that's not enough, they read it aloud again to produce this audiobook, which caused them to relive the horrid details. That makes them genuine men in my eyes. Having survived almost 50 years of abuse, I feel qualified to spot a couple of good guys when I see them.

I love their smiles on the podcast. To some trolls it may seem inappropriate. However, think about how they have mentioned the fun and laughter they had as they got together as a huge family. Maybe I see it in a skewed fashion, but part of their smiles can be attributed to the joy it is to see each other. Their broad grins help boost me as I move forward in my own healing journey.

Thank you, Sexy Rexy for your comparison of Blue Bell ice cream. Word pictures are my language! Adam, keep up your time with Zac and your new pickleball life! Although we've never met, I'm proud of both of you and the forward progress you've made! Looking forward to seeing you in this series of healing podcasts!
