About this listen

Alice is in love with her best friend. Now all she needs to do is tell him.

Best buds Milo Manganiello and Alice Hooper have been the one constant in each other's lives for over 15 years. The charismatic and compassionate physics professor was there when Alice got married, and he was there 10 years later when she got divorced. Likewise, the candid and kind computer science professor has always been there for Milo. She babysits his apartment and plethora of houseplants when he's traveling, and they share breakfast together every day he's in town. Alice wasn't always in love with Milo, but the feeling has grown, and when Milo returns from his latest globe-trotting adventure, Alice decides it's time to spill the seeds.

Does Alice have the grit to confess? And will feelings take root? Or is hers a love destined never to bloom?

Live and Let Grow is a 14k-word (short) contemporary romance of long-suffering unrequited love and can be enjoyed as a stand-alone.

Oh my heart!

This was such a wonderful story. It made my heart happy, I couldn’t stop smiling as I listen. Alice is just such a relatable character who you were cheering on and Milo oh, Milo you just knew he was swoon-worthy even before you met him and proceeded to fall in love with him.

So happy to get lost in their story.

Good

For being such a short story, the characters were very well developed. The possibility of a future and understanding was brilliantly done. I do have to wonder if the author intended on using the same unusual last name as Nick in the “knitting in the city” series. I thought it was cute and a fun way to have a connection with the other books…

Wish this was longer!

Loved these two characters, just wish it was a full length book, it ended way to soon!

Definitely a “short”

I don’t regret listening, but it was so short that it didn’t give you an opportunity to fall in love with the characters and connect to the story.

A great quickie! Short, sweet and angsty

Penny Reid never disappoints! No matter if it's a series or a standalone, her brand of angst, chemistry and great characters is just stellar and what makes me a fan. This short novella is a great condensed version into the writing mind of such a brilliant author. She gives the reader enough angst and hope to be hooked and become invested. I loved the sweetness behind their friendship and how both are just too afraid or too hesitant to admit to the other how they feel. The narration is great! Both Joe and Fiona are great at what they do and giving voice to these characters is no exception.

I want more!

This short story left me wanting more - more Milo and Alice, more related ‘Knitting in the City’ spin-off / backstories, more Penny Reid. Love the ‘duet’ format - Penny is strong in her male character insight / dialogue / POV game.

Short n predictable

Good thing it’s short story. I always love Penny Reid, but this story is very predictable and kinda dumb and childish specially for people above 30ish? We don’t do that shit anymore! Good thing the sex is pretty good not gross scene.

Friends first

This is a good short story about being friends with the person you love. It is a good way to wind down and relax after a long day.

Short and sweet

So actually, as the blurb says, you could read this for free in the author Penny Reid’s newsletter. Which I did, until it was available as an audiobook, and as part of Audible Plus I could download it and listen. So I did. It was a short and sweet story. Not connected to any of Reid’s other books really, so just a little standalone novella. A very quick listen as well.
