About this listen

The victories and challenges one man faced as a first-time teacher in the strange world of prison life

After devoting half of his lifetime transforming his start-up business into a multi-million dollar industry leader, author John McLaughlin set out in a new direction: to teach what he had learned to others.

Due to a lack of teaching experience, his only job offer was to teach entrepreneurship to prisoners at a minimum-security camp in North Carolina. John gradually builds an effective program until a scandal involving prison officials blindsides his progress and threatens to bring his teaching career to an unceremonious end.

Lifeline to a Soul takes the listener inside the fence and chronicles the victories and challenges one man faced as a first-time teacher in the strange world of prison life.

A Thought-provoking listen

In “Lifeline to a Soul,” John K. McLaughlin, an incredibly successful businessman shares the life-changing perspective he gained while teaching entrepreneurship to convicted prisoners. In his early 50s, he made a conscious decision to make a difference in the lives of those who are often overlooked. The book is a truly moving, captivating, thought-provoking, and inspiring real-life story that explores the concept of giving second chances to those in need.
McLaughlin takes us on a journey through the highs and lows of working with inmates, providing a fascinating account. The book is well-written, enjoyable, and highly entertaining. What stood out to me the most is the fact that despite his considerable wealth from a highly successful multi-million dollar start-up company, McLaughlin chose to dedicate his time to making a positive impact on others by sharing his invaluable experiences.
As an audiobook listener, I appreciate that despite the time-consuming and daunting task it can be. Mr. McLaughlin put a lot of effort into recording this audio production himself and it’s always nice to experience the story directly from the person who wrote it. It’s like having them talk directly to you and this way you feel a deeper connection to the author and of course, to the things they are talking about..
I immensely enjoyed this audiobook and firmly believe that if more individuals with entrepreneurial abilities would share their teachings with the less fortunate, it will contribute to making the world a better place for everyone.
