Écrit en 2015, avant la pandémie du coronavirus, Les vieux ne parlent plus est une dystopie où l'État prend petit à petit en main la fin de vie des personnes âgées. La promesse ? Une vie digne et paisible dans un cadre idyllique. Mais la réalité est tout autre... puisque l'État se débarrasse discrètement des plus fragiles.
Charismatique et talentueux, Alexandre Geoffroy est un avocat à qui tout réussit : les femmes, les voitures, les relations. ll est le cerveau pensant derrière les Villages de Santé pour Aînés, des structures d'accueil qui proposent de s'occuper dignement des personnes âgées. Sur le papier, cette nouvelle réforme est idéale pour les enfants qui souhaitent se défaire de la responsabilité de leurs parents sans payer le prix fort.
En contrepartie ? Accepter que l'État gère la totalité des biens de vos parents.Mais pour Geoffroy, les choses vont rapidement se compliquer... Il est le principal suspect d'une enquête sur la mort douteuse d'un client sous sa tutelle, Joseph Patty. Et puis, sa mère commence à avoir la mémoire courte... mais pas question de la remettre aux mains du gouvernement.
Le piège, qu'il a lui-même créé, commence à se refermer sur lui.

Une dystopie pas si loin de la vérité du moment, c'est la réflexion que je me suis faite une fois le livre terminé. Quand on voit comment sont traités nos aînés, comment certaines personnes ne s'offusquent même plus quand on dit que ce sont les personnes âgées et donc à risque qui ont le plus de probabilités de mourir dans cette pandémie qu'est la covid, je me dis qu'on est plus très loin de ce que raconte le livre. Lecture intéressante qui pousse à la réflexion sur notre société actuelle...
