About this listen

From one of America's most versatile and celebrated writers, Legends of the Fall is Jim Harrison's classic trilogy of epic novellas.

The publication of this magnificent trilogy of short novels—Legends of the Fall, Revenge, and The Man Who Gave Up His Name—confirmed Jim Harrison's reputation as one of the finest American writers of his generation. These absorbing novellas explore the theme of revenge and the actions to which people resort when their lives or goals are threatened, adding up to an extraordinary vision of the twentieth-century man.

Set in the Rocky Mountains, Legends of the Fall is the epic tale of three brothers and their lives of passion, madness, exploration, and danger at the beginning of World War I. In Revenge, love causes the course of a man's life to be savagely and irrevocably altered. And in The Man Who Gave Up His Name, a man named Nordstrom is unable to relinquish his consuming obsessions with women, dancing, and food.

Well, sorry I am a romantic! I loved the movie.
The book was disappointing to me. It was completely different! I almost didn't recognize it.
I also thought this was the most sloppy of the three novellas.

So different!

I really enjoyed the authors writing style, and could feel the dull pain in life expressed in the writing. Poetic and at the dame time captivating.

Wonderful stories

I thought this was just going to be the original script that they took the story from to make the movie. The other two stories are awesome as well. Great find.

Not what I expected but still excellent.

This is a post midlife MASTERPIECE!
3 embraceable stories that will fill you with contemplation and rip at your soul.
Few books have I ever read that I felt I would return to over and over for the rest of my life

So much more then a movie could ever hope to capture

The movie was amazing. It is a similar but very different story of the Ludlow Family, but that is just one of the three amazing tales told in this book. A book that speaks of Vengence and Rsediscovory, Redemption and Loss.

The prose is perfect and it’s amazing how well the characters are developed in such a short period of time and few words.

I’m officially a fan of Harrison

Better Than The Movie

Overall enjoyed the three stories, especially first story. Good range of story lines. Last story seemed more scattered, too many characters for short story and then rushed to wrap it up. Still worth the listen just for general entertainment.

2 out of 3 ain’t bad…

This is a major novel, written with patience and skill. It has excellent character development, evocative writing, and a refreshing level meaning. Two thumbs up!

More than I expected, but it is a great book of stories. You can feel history in his words.

More than a film
