As is typical of the series, past events and past family history play the most important role in the present crime and investigation Donna is involved in and that tale of the past is again the most engaging part of the book. Discovering along with Donna all the family secrets, all the consequences of the choices made by particular members of the family at particular times is an intriguing journey, with so many layers to be uncovered and so many knots to be untangled before the final solution that at times you feel it almost an impossible task.
The pace of the book is quite good, though there are some slower moments; but they only make the story feel a bit more real - life often means waiting for important things to happen, right? ...:)
The interpretation by Ms Hazen is great, as usual. The pace of her reading is quite all right (although I did speed it up a bit, I admit - but I do it with most books I listen to recently, to be honest:)), I also like the voices she gives individual characters, they match them really well. She's a master interpreter of emotions, as well, making them believable and relatable. In general, it's a great interpretation of Ms Fayre's book.
One more note: I asked for the last two books in the series after hearing the news of Ms Fayre's passing due to some complications after the Covid infection - not because I felt I should but because I just wanted to continue with the series. I think the books deserve to be read and listened to because they are engaging tales that not only let you learn something of the past that created our present but also feel entertained by a nice piece of storytelling.

Bella Fayre is an incredibly talented author. The historic details she weaves into her stories make for a very interesting read/listen. The mystery is methodically tackled and everything is clear at the end.
Kelley Hazen really knows how to give a great performance. She maintains a consistency with the characters across all of the books in the series that she’s narrated. I was definitely entertained.
