Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Hazel Gaynor has joined with Heather Webb to create this unforgettably romantic novel of the Great War.

August 1914. England is at war. As Evie Elliott watches her brother, Will, and his best friend, Thomas Harding, depart for the front, she believes - as everyone does - that it will be over by Christmas, when the trio plan to celebrate the holiday among the romantic cafés of Paris.

But as history tells us, it all happened so differently....

Evie and Thomas experience a very different war. Frustrated by life as a privileged young lady, Evie longs to play a greater part in the conflict - but how? - and as Thomas struggles with the unimaginable realities of war, he also faces personal battles back home, where War Office regulations on press reporting cause trouble at his father's newspaper business. Through their letters Evie and Thomas share their greatest hopes and fears - and grow ever fonder from afar. Can love flourish amid the horror of the First World War, or will fate intervene?

Christmas 1968. With failing health, Thomas returns to Paris - a cherished packet of letters in hand - determined to lay to rest the ghosts of his past. But one final letter is waiting for him....

Full narrative cast includes Alex Wyndham, Billie Fulford-Brown, Morag Sims, Gary Furlong, Greg Wagland, Antony Ferguson, Derek Perkins, Jane Copland, and Mary Jane Wells.

This was a beautiful story of love from the unique perspective of letters! I wonder if we could form such a lasting and inspiring love in this age of instant messages?

Absolutely Wonderful!!

Completely fell in love with this book!
Starting it i was worried when I heard that it was written letter style but that's what really made me fall in love with this book. Definitely full of chivalry, very pheasable life events, and just completely couldn't stop listening. these 8 hours just flew by. the start might seem a little like ummmm okay where is this going but then once it starts rolling you can't stop!

So beautiful...

I'm so sad to come to the end of this story. The romance is timeless, as are the evils of war. I will be listening to this over and over.

There are no words to describe this...

There are no words to describe this story but I will try. I loved this story. Sometimes there are stories that don't leave you, I think this is one of them! It grabbed me from the beginning and didn't let go, I wanted to find out how everything was going to work out but I didn't want it to end. The narration was perfect!

Wonderful love story

Loved the glimpse of burgeoning love and the power of writing letters to express love. Also we never seem to learn how horrible war is. WWI was to be the war to end all wars.

True love and war

Enjoyed this book immensely. A little predictable but worth the time. Refreshing to listen to a nook set in WW I.

WWI

Don’t be deceived by the title- this is not really a Christmas story. Instead it is a story of love and sacrifice during WWI.

1914–As WWI begins Evie Elliot’s brother Will and his best friend, Thomas Harding enlist to help out their beloved country, Great Britain. While all three romanticize war, reality soon sets in. They all believe the war will be over by Christmas, but the war and its toll rage on for years.

This story is, at times, a simple love story; however, as the war continues with its death and destruction, the consequences become clear.
