About this listen
Last Chance Mustang is the story of Samson, a formerly free-roaming, still wild-at-heart American mustang that was plucked from his mountainous Nevada home and thrown into the domestic horse world, where he was brutalized and victimized. After years of abuse, Samson had evolved into a hateful and hated, maladjusted beast - until the day he found his way to a rural Illinois farm, an ill-equipped owner, and one last chance.
Mitch Bornstein's task was to tame the violent beast whose best defense had become offense. He had 20 years of experience fixing unfixable horses, but Samson would be his greatest challenge. Through the pair's many struggles and countless battles, Samson would teach Mitch about the true power of hope, friendship, redemption, and the inspiring mettle of the forever wild and free American mustang.

Jodi Stuber wasn't looking for another horse for her struggling therapy ranch―let alone one like Solomon. No stranger herself to loss and heartache, Jodi knew she had to give Solomon a home. The road to recovery wouldn’t be easy. As Solomon struggled to fit in with his new herd and Jodi continued to navigate her own grief, the two developed a deep bond. But just as Jodi and Solomon were both beginning to heal, an unthinkable tragedy struck the therapy ranch.

Story
In the wake of World War II, as turmoil and chaos were giving way to optimism, Americans were looking for inspiration and role models showing that it was possible to start from the bottom and work your way up to the top—and they found it in Stymie, the failed racehorse plucked from the discard heap by trainer Hirsch Jacobs. Taking listeners on a crowd-pleasing ride with Stymie and Jacobs, Out of the Clouds unwinds a real-life Horatio Alger tale of a dauntless team and its working-class fans who lived vicariously through the stouthearted little colt they embraced as their own.

Story
Monty Roberts' father, a traditional horse trainer, had taught his son to dominate a horse in order to "break" it. But when he was 13, Monty made a discovery that changed his life. As he watched a mare tame a rebellious colt, Monty saw that she was speaking to it through eye and body movements. Astonished, Monty realized that he could train horses by using their language, speaking to them in ways that would form trust and understanding. Developing techniques based on what he learned from the horses around him, Monty embarked on a remarkable career - one that would bring him international fame as the real Horse Whisperer.

Mental abilities—like seeing, learning, fearing, trusting, and focusing—are discussed from both human and horse perspectives. Throughout, true stories of horses and handlers attempting to understand each other—sometimes successfully, sometimes not—help to illustrate the principles.

Story
Jo Anne Normile was not supposed to keep the foal, an exuberant Thoroughbred with only a few white hairs on his reddish-brown forehead. But she fell in love with the young horse, who had literally been born into her arms. The breeder finally said she could keep the colt, whom she nicknamed "Baby" - but only if she raced him. It was difficult to take Baby away from the safety of his pasture. But Normile had made a promise.

In The Horse, journalist and equestrienne Wendy Williams brings that story brilliantly to life. wonderful book
loved the story of Sampson, it made me laugh and it made me cry.
The information given about how the American mustangs have been murdered is just horrible it's unbelievable that people can be so cruel and ruthless.
God will judge those who have done such cruelty to his innocent beautiful creatures

A story true to its title
Lots to learn listening to this book
Fair warning for animal lovers this book is a TOUGH listen! It's graphic details regarding the decimation of our beautiful mustangs is really hard to hear but a necessary truth if we are to right the wrongs that have occurred over the last century.
I would love to have had a seat on the fence and witnessed Samson's training first hand! Mitch is one talented and brave trainer who admits learning as much from Samson as he did from Mitch. Overall a great story and one that needs to be heard and read far and wide so more "Samsons" are left where they belong....wild and FREE!

WOW
I love this book, and plan on buying it for my other horsey friends. I love the way it was written, and how I learned so much more about the plight of mustangs, while enjoying the story of a Mustang that had no future, coming to terms with his past, and learning to move past the trauma that humankind heaped on him.
