About this listen

Gregg Kaplan's partner has vanished without a word. He is inexplicably kept in the dark by his employer, the CIA, and ordered to stand down or face the consequences.

Refusing to follow orders, Kaplan strikes out on his own in search of Isabella Hunt, the woman with whom he is in love. Following a tip that led him across the country to a small town in Wyoming, he finds himself in trouble once again when two of the town's bullies assault a young Native American woman. This time it lands him behind bars. Kaplan quickly learns the men he just put in the hospital are the sons of a wealthy and politically connected land baron.

Town Marshal Christine Cavalier is stumped by recent crimes in her once-peaceful town. After one of her deputies is murdered, she realizes her understaffed department cannot handle the wrath of the most powerful man in town. She is forced to turn to a man with special skills - Kaplan - who is pushed into an unwanted alliance with the marshal in exchange for what he believes the marshal knows about Isabella.

Aided by his friend Pete Moss and the town marshal, Kaplan finds himself in a deadly shoot-out. Cavalier believes the killer is dead, but Kaplan knows somebody more sinister is the mastermind behind the killing spree. Is it too late to stop him before he kills again?

With relentless pacing, striking twists, and some of most devious characters yet, Last Chance is Chuck Barrett writing at his awe-inspiring best.

Great story by a master storyteller!

I wish Chuck Barrett would release novels more often. LAST CHANCE is an outstanding suspense thriller and the second novel in his Gregg Kaplan series. This series is as good as his four novel Jake Pendleton series. Marc Vietor narrates very well indeed, but not quite as strong as Scott Brick did with the Jake Pendleton series. If you like the suspense thriller and espionage genres, the Gregg Kaplan series is must listen. Although Kaplan is a CIA asset LAST CHANCE is about his free time between CIA operations. Very, very highly recommended!!

Keep It Simple, Stupid - this author does just that. The main character steps right out leading us into rural Montana and into a surprising mystery. I loved it,
the action, the characters, the small town of Last Chance and the wide open spaces. Not for the genre sophisticate unless you enjoy a chance of pace. I'd knock down old ladies for a new Harry Bosch novel or an old Jack Reacher book. This was a lot of fun. disclaimer- I slept through some of the action in the last part of the book but it was OK, I awoke
for the important ending and the
epiloge.

Would be better without the politics

Good story and good characters but it would be better without the polarizing "Climate Change" and "White People Bad" theme.

"Mysterious stranger comes to a small town..."

Every publicist compares his/her author's latest to "Reacher / Mitch Rapp".... a trite attempt to snare the large fan followings of Lee Child and the late Vince Flynn. THIS actually is a very "Reacher-esque" plot... "mysterious dangerous stranger shows up in a small town run by a ruthless bully blah blah blah ..." .... AND it is a Very Good example of that genre.

What greater compliment can I offer than I immediately downloaded another Chuck Barrett story... I was not familiar with the narrator but I enjoyed him... good action story with a good narrator ... what more do you want?

Good vs Evil

Great protagonist with a plausible backstop. Good continuation of the story line from book 1. Definite recommendation.

Great read and okay narration..

The town of Last Chance, Wyoming was a small town with a woman sheriff named Christine Cavalier who went to war with Drew Pearson and his 4 sons, Stevie, Mark, Scott and Evan. With the help of Gregg Kaplan, an ex-CIA operative and Pete Moss, a Senior Inspector of the US Marshal Services, Jesse, the Deputy and Lucy Raintree, an eighteen-year-old homeless Indian girl. And what a war it was. And the worst of the bunch was Stevie! What a whacko!

This was entertaining from beginning to the end. And the ending was kinda sad. However, I do look forward to reading more about Kaplan.

No sex and the F-bomb was only used 5 times.

As to the narration: Marc Vietor is still just okay for me. His females are a teeny-bit better but he still reads without emotion.
