About this listen

Strictly off limits to the public, Plum Island is home to virginal beaches, cliffs, forests, ponds - and the deadliest germs that have ever roamed the planet.

Lab 257 blows the lid off the stunning true nature and checkered history of Plum Island. It shows that the seemingly bucolic island in the shadow of New York City is a ticking biological time bomb that none of us can safely ignore. Based on declassified government documents, in-depth interviews, and access to Plum Island itself, this is an eye-opening, suspenseful account of a federal government germ laboratory gone terribly wrong.

For the first time, Lab 257 takes you deep inside this secret world and presents startling revelations on virus outbreaks, biological meltdowns, infected workers, the periodic flushing of contaminated raw sewage into area waters, and the insidious connections between Plum Island, Lyme disease, and the deadly West Nile virus. The book also probes what's in store for Plum Island's new owner, the Department of Homeland Security, in this age of bioterrorism.

Lab 257 is a call to action for those concerned with protecting present and future generations from preventable biological catastrophes.

Critic reviews

"One of the best pieces of investigative reporting you'll read this year. Lab 257 is must-reading for the post-9/11 world." (Nelson DeMille, best-selling author of Plum Island)

A hidden gem

I honestly didn’t expect much and can’t even remember what it was that inspired me to add this to my library but what a pleasant surprise that I had. The author is fantastic and engaging and the reader really brings that extra depth and charm to tie this book together.

Compelling

This book was amazing. I finished it in a couple of days. I found the information to be so thorough and interesting. I actually looked up the author to see if he wrote anything else and it turns out he is a Lawyer and this is his only book. Definitely a must read for anyone who lives in the tristate area. I think it's amazing what this facility got away with but it is typical of government organizations.

If you liked The Great Influenza, you'll love this

Great book. Covers what few of us know about the goings on within our country's labs

Too frightening. Almost unbelievable. Very real.

I work with a client that has been suffering from Lyme Disease for almost 20 years. It is debilitating and hardly recognized by the mainstream medical community. It’s a shame. It’s real and those who suffer from the disease shouldn’t have to spend years fighting for benefits.

This person has even had to undergo psychological testing because the doctors think it’s all in the head.

Wake up. Get this diagnosed before it can’t be treated. Shame on our government for the long standing cover up and systematic denials.

Still relevant!

This book remains relevant to this day! It is a well written and read account of the perils of a certain laboratory off Long Island, New York and all it’s implications to disease here and worldwide. The experience of COVID should have us all sitting up and taking notice. I will save this for future reference .

The hidden world of Germ development

This book sheds some light in to plum island, one of the government research centres for germs and diseases.

If what we know is this scary, what we don't must be terrifying.

Mistakes are a part of life, but when the stakes are so high it might just be the end of life.

Great research into what could be one of the most dangerous places on earth. Government research onto germ warfare.

Example of lack of over sight

Great book with examples of bureaucratic disregard, lack of over sight, disregard for public safety, lack of disclosure, outright lies to congress & lack of safety. As scary as Biohazard in the blatant disregard for safety & the ignoring of the dangers of biological warfare.

Truly An Eye Opener

From my own research this book is on point and highly educational. It’s a wake up call to the people struggling with Lyme and how our own government is not to be trusted.

Frightening

This book peels back the cloak of deception and reveals the ugly truth of Plum Island and his history. Definitely will be looking into this matter myself.

Inhumane

Many people are suffering TODAY because of these kinds of programs. So cruel! And Why?
