A childhood favorite...

I remember finding this book when I was in elementary school, and how vivid and beautiful the stories were... to hear them brought to life in an audiobook was truly magical! 💖

One Of the best Books I’ve read

I am a ELA III for the 11th grade in the bronx. Opening with this book has allowed me to introduce my scholars not only into the world of storytelling but aligning it with actually historical event.

great, emotional

Very insightful book about the lives of the people in Haiti on a personal level. the stories are somewhat sad and disheartening but the author has great purpose in writing the book. Very good narration also.

Beautiful short stories of strength & resilience

To know Haiti is to know a history of overcoming. Slaves who overthrew their masters and have been eternally challenged by rejecting whiteness. These are beautiful stories written from the perspective of women with connection to Ville Rose. They tell stories of the Haitians who stayed and those of the diaspora, their plight, but most of all their grounding in a dignified identity. Very well narrated. Inspirational.

I like the narrator

But the stories are forgettable. I wanted to like it but I just didn't find anything to like...but the narrator.
