About this listen
Raina was just a girl when the plague came. She survived. Her parents didn't. Neither did the world. As civilization fell, she took to the ruins of Los Angeles, eating whatever she could catch. After two years alone, she's found and adopted by a fisherman and his wife. Their makeshift family lives a quiet life - until a man named Karslaw sails in from Catalina Island with an army of conquerors. Driven by visions of empire, he executes Raina's new father as a traitor and takes her mother captive. But Karslaw's people aren't the only ones vying for control of the ruined land. As violence wracks the city, Raina joins a rebellion against Karslaw's rule. She will stop at nothing to free her mother - and to have her revenge.

In the realm of Isodoro, just two things stand between Alliance lands and the spears and muskets of the orcish hordes: the wizards of the Order and constant infighting amongst the orcs themselves. In the Alliance capital, young Wit has just been promoted from apprentice to full wizard - and saddled with the very unglamorous task of traveling to a distant iron mine to inspect it for fraud. Worse yet, he's partnered with Wa'llach, a drunken dwarven prisoner who's killed more people than most plagues. Yet those skills are about to become very handy.

Story
Young Cally is an apprentice within the most unusual order of sorcerers in the known world: the only one that forbids its members from using their powers to kill. Despite his lowly status, Cally's chosen by the Master of the Order to join a delegation to see their allies the Lannovians. The meeting will be historic: 60 years ago, the Order's enemies attacked them with a host of demons, forcing the Order to trap the monsters inside their own citadel and seal it shut with impenetrable wards. The trick worked so well the Order hasn't been able to get it back open since.

Story
Minalan gave up a promising career as a professional warmage to live the quiet life of a village spellmonger in the remote mountain valley of Boval. It was a peaceful, beautiful little fief, far from the dangerous feudal petty squabbles of the Five Duchies, on the world of Callidore. There were cows. Lots of cows. And cheese. For six months things went well: He found a quaint little shop, he befriended the local lord, the village folk loved him, he found a sharp young apprentice to help out, and, best yet, he met a comely young widow with the prettiest eyes.

Story
The wall just didn’t look right. Alex has been trying to cope. Life after his deployment had been rough. His ex-wife thought he needed to stop disappointing their daughter. She was right. He would try harder. With six hours before his little girl’s fourth birthday party, he saw the anomaly. One wall was too short. Plenty of time to tear out a panel and look behind it. He found a brick wall. His house wasn’t made of brick. Behind that was another just like the first. He still had time. When the second wall came down, Alex stood and stared at the shining doorway.

The living dead are more alive than ever! Zombies have become more than an iconic monster for the 21st century: They are now a phenomenon constantly revealing as much about ourselves - and our fascination with death, resurrection, and survival - as our love for the supernatural or post-apocalyptic speculation. Our most imaginative literary minds have been devoured by these incredible creatures and produced exciting, insightful, and unflinching new works of zombie fiction.

Story
There came an elastic aftershock of creaks and groans and then, softly softly, a chinking shower of rubbled cement. Leaves calmed and trunks stood serene. Where, not a minute before, there had been a suburb, there was now only woodland standing amid ruins. There is no warning. No chance to prepare. They arrive in the night: thundering up through the ground, transforming streets and towns into shadowy forest. Buildings are destroyed.

Amazing series
I have listened to this series a couple of times and it’s great. The characters are solid and well developed. This author has created characters that are so unique. What an imagination he has. I totally lol at the vicious wit he has gifted to some of them. And then he brings it all to life with the distinct sound of this narrator.
Ray Chase has an incredible voice- it’s rich and resonant and he brings such attitude to the characters personalities. He has a style that represents male and female characters without getting carried away with falsettos or accents. The wit, sarcasm and bite are so effective and were meant to be presented by this guy. He’s fantastic.

LOVE series--but Audible DOESNT have books 4, 5&6
What did you like best about this story?
The different point of views offered. But why doesn't Audible carry books 4, 5, 6???????? Because you can't get books 4, 5, 6 I'd say don't even bother to read the series. It's too disappointing not being able to continue with the story.
What does Ray Chase bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He reads with great feeling.
Any additional comments?
Audible--get it together. It's bad business to only carry HALF the series. The other half has been out for a YEAR.

Return to form
Any additional comments?
This book took me a little by surprise - after book 2 in the series it took me a while before getting back into it , as I was disappointed. The performance by Ray Chase was as good as ever, the parallel story lines crafted expertly so that at times they touched but were still allowed on their own way. I welcomed the return of Walt, visits by Ness and Sebastian, and the new perspective on events afforded by a 15 year old girl.
Overall the dry wit, narration and characterization was the best part, and leaving aside yet more overt nods to Game of Thrones ( Medieval marauders with meglomaniac leader, living in an island castle, the main female character behaving very similar to Arya, complete with assassin like training, even a totem called Reek, for goodness sake) it was an enjoyable adventure.

Great After The End of the World Story
Would you consider the audio edition of Knifepoint to be better than the print version?
Don't actually read for entertainment. I have no idea.
What did you like best about this story?
I like "end of the world" stories but this one was fun to listen to. For this type of subject matter, I was surprised I laughed so much. The dark humor was quite funny.
What does Ray Chase bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Ray Chase did an excellent job bringing the characters to life. With the dark humor, he played off the lines really well. I will have to see what else Mr. Chase has narrated.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, but I did finish the story fast for me. I wish there were more stories in the series. I figure I will take a break because I read 1, 2 and 3 pretty quickly, one after another. I will read something else and come back to book 4.
Any additional comments?
I was surprised that I really enjoyed this series and had quite a few laughs. Hopefully this author has other books I might like.
