About this listen

Harry McCallion was a trained killer, fighting in the world’s trouble spots with ruthless professionalism.

Born ‘a ragged-arsed kid from the backstreets of Glasgow’, McCallion joined the Paras to escape a miserable home life and find the family he longed for. After six tense tours in Ulster, McCallion gave up everything to move to South Africa in the hope of qualifying for the highly elite South African Special Forces.

Having succeeded in joining the Recces, McCallion was involved in plots to assassinate Robert Mugabe and Joshua Nkomo. Back in Britain, McCallion once again put his body and mind through unimaginable pressure during SAS Selection and ended up back in Ulster for two tours with the SAS anti-terrorist team. Killing Zone is a story of exceptional endurance, told with grim humour and great psychological insight into the minds of those whose lives depend on killing others.

Quite the story of a real Action Man

The story of an incredible guy, he wasn't happy unless he had one of the worlds most dangerous jobs.

He went from paratrooper, to mercenary in Africa, back to the SAS then when that wasn't interesting enough joined the RUC, how he survived all he did is beyond me! most people would think they had lived on the edge if they had done just one.

Fantastic

The real life story, not fiction, the matter of fact way the story was told. Very good!

What a Life

Harry McCallion has lived a most amazing life in Special Forces. For all practical purposes he should never have made it out of his horrific childhood in tact. But in spite of unbelievable odds, he did and joined the army. From there on, it was non stop action and perilous missions. It gives the reader a true appreciation for what these men endure and are willing to sacrifice. David McCallion's narration gives it an extra edge.

Great story

What an adventurous life.
From abject poverty and abuse to barrister with a few wars in between. Well written and well read. I really enjoyed this book.

First Rate

Fascinating story of the shadowy world of an elite British warrior. Read by his brother in what I think is a very clear Glaswegian accent, “Killing Zone” is exciting and heartfelt with insightful views of life in the Paras, the SAS and the RUC.
