About this listen
Kestrel and Rory are the very best partnership in Wester Fleet's elite Mountain Rescue Team. They've trusted one another with their lives for five years. They're closer than brothers - but Rory's feelings for his handsome, daredevil partner are far from fraternal. He knows better than to tell Kes the truth. Climbing partnerships are a delicate balance of love and practicality, and the Fleet MRT has a strict nonfraternization code. Rory could lose everything by making a confession. And Kes is an enigma - sometimes distant, sometimes seeming to crave the very devotion Rory longs to give him.
Kes is all set to become the MRT's next leader. He's a shoo-in for the job - except for his impatience with amateur climbers and his inability to hold his tongue. When he and Rory are given the job of guiding two important visitors across the Fleet range, it's a test of his tact, to say the least. But nothing about this mission is as it seems, and soon Kes is facing the most terrifying challenge of his life.

Marty Bell knows what it's like to be bullied. He was the shy, overweight kid at school, and those memories have helped turn him into an excellent teacher - though he's never spread his wings beyond the remote northern village where he grew up. The last thing he needs in his life is the reappearance of Devlin Surtees, leader of the gang who made his schooldays so tough. Dev is the glamorous village hero now, flying acrobatics planes and fighter jets for the RAF. He’s just as spellbinding, handsome and infuriating as Marty recalls.

When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she doesn't think it's love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.

Wish it were longer
I got really attached to these characters despite the short length of the book, but I felt the "plot twist" and ending was somewhat unbelievable and rushed after what felt like an immersive story and struggling/ building relationship between realistically flawed characters. So that's what kept it from a 5 star to me, but the writing was excellent and I definitely would have appreciated a longer, more fleshed out story but enjoyed what it was.

Letting go...
Letting go is never an easy thing to do, particularly when you are in denial. Not to mention, the journey is subjective. Kestrel and Rory are an enigmatic pairing who have to come to terms with the now and incorporate the past, which can be challenging. This is a realistic tale of that journey. Enjoyable short story.

Okay Story, Lousy “Romance”
Interesting premise, and if it wasn’t in the Romance category I might’ve liked it. Kes was horribly cruel to Rory, and Rory was crushed and rightfully angry, but then just got over it without even a decent apology, much less the groveling and explanation he deserved? Nope. Bummer though, because I think with just a little more time and effort it could’ve really been a wonderful short story.
I usually enjoy Joe Arden’s narration, but this story was not the right fit for him. At all.

Need different Narrator....
The story was ok but I thought the narrator should of been British, not American. Either that or He should have made more of an effort to speak with a British accent...I would of enjoyed it along more!

A fine novella
The mountains of Scotland were a third character in this novella. I love how descriptive of the landscape Harper Fox is.
This is the odd story of two longtime friends and climbing partners who become more to each other.
The journey is strange due to Kestrel’s grief and his treatment of Rory. I don’t think Kestrel is the nicest man, but he’s got a good reason to be so closed off.
The narrator, while he had a nice voice, didn’t use a Scottish accent save for when Kestrel got drunk. It was also difficult to differentiate between the two MC’s.
While not my favorite story of Harper Fox, I did enjoy listening to it and picturing Scottish peaks in my head.
