a bit much for me

I have been a fan of Laurie King, but this story was a little bit too over the top graphic for me. Yes, what war and trauma do to people has a profound effect on them... but there were places where it was traumatic just to listen to it. I liked the narrator, though... well presented story.

Psychologically acute

Ferrone's voicing of the child almost ruined it,bot the story and the writing were strong, more than strong enough to overcome.
I'm s huge fan of this author and have read (or listened to) most of what she's written. She writes strong characterizations in all of her work, but
I think this novel may embody the most psychologically acute.
Very painful return to Vietnam.

Such a hard topic

The pain in this book is almost unbearable at times. If I’d known what it was I wouldn’t have picked it. But the writing and the interweaving of the story was incredibly well done and now that I’ve finished it I can let myself breathe again.

Breathtaking....

Laurie R. King's ability to create mind pictures is breathtaking and Richard Ferrone's voicing of an amazing story brings it truly to life. I hope that Alan, Jerry, Ray and all of the other wonderful characters created for Folly and Keeping Watch will come back to visit once again. They are all truly real to me now.

Exceedingly well crafted

As a sequel to “Folly” this book is even richer in the knowledge of how the broken can be healed. True to life characters who follow their chosen moral compass. Each bringing their own to the whole.

Loved It

If you could sum up Keeping Watch in three words, what would they be?

Hero at large.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I enjoyed the plot as it was a continuation of "Folly" but also stood on it's own. The end did have me a bit concerned!

Which scene was your favorite?

I enjoyed both the history in Vietnam and the relationship between Allen and Jerry. True family devotion even when the years have gone by.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

You are not alone.

Any additional comments?

I enjoy many of Laurie R King's books, this series was one of them. She brings bravery and vulnerability to the table, often within the same character.

Excellent Read

The writing itself was excellent, I've read this and Folly seceral times over. Unfortunately the narrator lacked the range tobhandle all the characters and emotions in the book.
