Publisher's summary

Pro wrestler and political commentator Tyrus goes deep into his wild but triumphant life story, from his painfully dysfunctional upbringing to bodyguarding for Snoop Dogg, to becoming a wrestling icon and one of the most provocative on-air voices today.

The product of a 1970s mixed marriage, George Murdoch learned to fight early in life, fending off both race-baiting bullies and the demons of a dysfunctional home. Couch surfing all through high school and most of college, the quick-witted, sharp-tongued giant played football, ran drugs, and bounced at clubs to try to survive. After a false start with the WWE, he eventually became Snoop Dogg's bodyguard and traveled the world with the hip hop legend, biding his time and honing his rap. When the WWE urged him to return, George became "Brodus Clay" and, for the next several years, reinvented himself numerous times under the watchful mentorship of the legendary Dusty Rhodes, "the American Dream." He was eventually christened "Tyrus," and shortly after, a chance social media encounter with Greg Gutfeld at Fox News resulted in Tyrus finding a new skill: sage social commentator. Ferociously funny, blunt, and tenacious, Just Tyrus traces his unlikely and spectacular rise. As always with Tyrus, it's in-your-face and offers no apologies.

Just a Great Story!

This book helped me understand my life perspective better through a very personal narrative!

I appreciated the powerful and humor-filled narration that I've come to expect from none other than Tyrus himself!

Terrific!

A truly amazing book. …To the point, yet respectful and honest. Tyrus is “up front” in telling the reader that you get the story that he wants you to know. Grounded, grateful and so introspective is how I would describe the Tyrus he reveals. A real free thinker is another descriptor as well as full of personality.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Eye opener

This is going to be a positive review, but let me first address the elephant in the room…

Tyrus is not a stage reader. After teaching 8th grade English for 27 years, you get to hear all kinds of out loud readers. Some are theatrical and others just plow through with little vocal variation. Tyrus is the latter, but somehow it works (Unlike some of Gutfeld’s monologues - lol).

His story is gripping in virtually ever chapter. His life is a testament to hard work, determination, and finding a moral philosophy that reflects what you truly believe instead of what you feel compelled to believe. Some parts were hilarious, some were shocking, and others were gut-wrenching; however, none of them were boring or just writing fluff. Each segment builds to the next.

If you’ve ever watched Tyrus on an interview, you can see glimmers of his past emerge in his dissection of the day’s topics. What makes him laugh, pissed, or passionate about a news story can be found in moments from what he shares in this book. Everyone on TV has a past, but the authenticity of Tyrus’s comments on air is easily solidified somewhere in what he shares in this writing. It’s personal, honest, and a wonderful reminder of why we should never use cultural boxes to categorize people. He connects easily with readers - not because of similar situations- but because of common emotions, especially when he’s excited about a topic. Then the theatrical reader comes alive, and the honesty and integrity of his words lets you know you just heard his truth. Not many writers can pull that off.

I loved this book and am listening to it again as I type this.

Oh… and no poop jokes or Monkey-Pox mentions either! Thank you, Tyrus.

Tyrus is the Man!!

Love Tyrus; his story is happy, sad, and inspiring. He is a great role model for anyone. The only negative found is Tyrus' performance reading the book. Often he sounded like he was just in a hurry to get it over with, not really any pauses between phrases or emotion in his words. He sounded like he wasn't interested in doing the audible. But we love his story and we love watching him on Gutfeld!

Great story of a life

Glad you survived! Don’t always agree with Tyrus but respect him. As a retired police officer it refreshingly to see a victim of a rough beginning survive.

Just Tyrus

Short but good

I have always liked Tyrus and think his eclectic path to success is really cool! I think he glosses over a lot of stories in his book, and this could be twice as long if he really delved into the details of some of his stories. Maybe he holding off for a part 2 down the road!! But a good primer from someone who refuses to stay down when life throws it’s left hooks and hard punches at you!!
