Acerca de esta escucha

Craig Johnson’s rough-and-tumble hero Walt Longmire is quickly becoming a fan-favorite and a critical success.

Here Walt has his hands full as greedy land developers employ shady, violent methods to reverse their fortunes in recession-racked Wyoming, where the owners of a multi-million dollar development of ranchettes want to get rid of the adjacent junk-yard. When a severed thumb is discovered in the yard, conflicts erupt, and Walt Longmire, his trusty companion Dog, life-long friend Henry Standing Bear, and deputies Santiago Saizarbitoria and Victoria Moretti find themselves in a small town that feels more and more like a high plains pressure cooker.

“It’s the scenery—and the big guy standing in front of the scenery—that keeps us coming back to [these] lean and leathery mysteries.” ( New York Times Book Review)

Another good story

Where does Junkyard Dogs rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

In the top 10.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Junkyard Dogs?

When the deputy shot the man whose thumb had been cut off because he was preparing to shoot Walt.

Which scene was your favorite?

The description of Walt trying to stop the wrecker that Gina was driving in order to get away from Walt and/or kill him.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. I listen to books the way my father and his family listened to the radio when he was a little boy. There is too much trash on TV these days and I can pick what I want to listen too. I do wish that Vic Maretti's mouth was not quite so foul.

Freeeezing...

The Wyoming winter is going full scale with temperatures dropping way below zero, freezing even your breath, burrrr. Walt and the gang are on the case trying to find out who is behind multiple murders that started when Walt an Vic found a huge underground crop of pot plants.

Another great one in the series which is no surprise. Craig Johnson is the best at coming up with fascinating co-characters to support the returning cast. In every book the new characters are so classically authentic, it makes me wonder if they are based on real people he encounters in his life.

A little heads up; the Longmire series on TV dose not follow the plots in any of the books and a few of the main characters are different. Its a good show and I'm so glad it does not ruin any of the books I have not yet read. Narrator George Guidall is Walt Longmire. It would not be the same without him.

Wonderful

All the positive reviews tell all you need to know. I can add nothing more. Craig Johnson may not be as well known as John Grisham, but he shuld be! His books are wonderfully exciting wth real characters (that are not indiscriminantly jumping into bed all the time). And George Guidall is just the best narrator for this author. The combination is unbeatable.

Junk Yard Gold

What a great read, well story, then. The dry wit, humor, action, n human interest, along with compassion, empathy, and just the right amount of morbid murder details, amid Western old world all around wonderfulness. Craig Johnson is a magician!

Humor, suspence and mystery.

Craig Johnson puts a great deal of character into every person in the story and George Guidall brings them all to life. This story had me guessing to the end. The lives of his deputies and the town folk brings a great deal of sideline entertainment and interest to a mesmerizing story .

Not Great But I Keep Coming Back

These books are so well read by George Guidall that even the somewhat bland plots are passable. I have getting one of these about every 8 weeks when I want something entertaining but not deep. This one is particularly disjointed. Each Longmire book leaves me thinking it will be the last but I keep coming back.

If I told you the plot, you would laugh out loud and think me a joker. Nope. Well, I will probably go for the next one in about a month...

Glad i bought the audio book instead of the novel

If you could sum up Junkyard Dogs in three words, what would they be?

Laugh Out Loud.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I'm not sure how to explain it. As a procedural, not so much Ed McBain or others. But waiting to find out what would happen to Geo Stuart next? Oh yes. Bring on the next laugh please.

Which character – as performed by George Guidall – was your favorite?

Walt Longmire of course, although Vic Moretti and Geo's stoner grandson are a close second.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yeah, but I don't wanna ruin anything for future listeners/readers.

Any additional comments?

Seriously, I picked this book up at the right time. Just listening to the shenanigans in the first chapter brightened what had been a really crappy week. Geo's "sleigh ride", Butch and Sundance, Dog, an unexpected romance...

Look, this would be a book that makes you laugh just reading it, but narrated by George Guidall? Boy howdy, get ready for that sleigh ride.

Love, humor, compassion, and friendship among the ruins

The hilarity of the opening vignette gives you just a small taste of the pleasure you find in this "visit" to Durant, WY. This book is a favorite and this reading my second time. Here we get to see Walt's humor, but more than that we see his humanity. When he is reduced to an awkward, self-conscious mumbler by his high school teacher we see that Walt took some time to grow into his gifts. When he continues to see Mrs. Dobbs' beauty through the filter of age, we see his honesty. There is petulance mixed with admiration in his moderated jealousy of the way females from 8-80 respond to Henry Standing Bear. The truth is, Walt has been admiring Henry since he met him. There is poignancy to the tale of December romance as we get to see again Craig Johnson's apparent belief that humans crave connection and attachment to others in order to enhance their own existence and feel alive. Junkyard Dogs shows us Walt's bungling, round-about, way of caring for his deputies, as he works to support their needs and desires. I highly recommend this book.
