About this listen

Could you survive waking up alone in a vast and deadly desert?

Moments ago, Jane's biggest worries were unpaid bills and finding a job. Now, she must use all her cunning, along with her new, mysterious powers, to survive the desolate and scorching sands.

No food. No water. No answers.

Jane's battle for survival in this unfamiliar land has just begun...

Hunted by the savage beasts of the desert, it's only a matter of time before Jane either adapts to the world around her or ends up as another skeleton rotting in the blistering sun. But what chance does a modern woman have in the endless dunes, dressed only in her pajamas?

About the series: Judicator Jane is an isekai (portal fantasy) LitRPG set in an expansive universe rich with history. The forces of good and evil stand at the precipice of apocalypse. Will Jane find the answers she seeks? Or will the unforgiving world, harsh trials, and the burden of carrying a horrific power corrupt her innocent spirit?

Fantastic Fantasy

This gripping adventure had me on the edge of my seat. The unfolding story–full of legends, magic, and action--kept me listening. Love the main character Jane, a young salt of the earth person faced with high-stake choices in an archaic world. The author skillfully navigates between Jane’s 21st century unremarkable human reality and her increasingly sensational power as Judicator Jane. I really felt for Jane as she went through nail-biting experiences and was forced to make world-shaking choices on the spot for better or for worse. Then, out of the blue the mysterious System would update the point progress of Jane’s game persona. Such an amusing counterpoint to Jane’s very real personal dilemmas and outward battles for truth and justice. The audio narration by Angela Clark is delightfully engaging. Ms. Clark's voice dramatically captures the unique speech of each character from wizard to demon to vagabond child. Her narration, like the story itself, is suspenseful, intense and a bit light-hearted. Can’t wait to listen to the next book in the series.

Great story

This was a great story. I understand why others might find it offputting. You expect murder and mayhem not the luck stat. Jane draws power in a different and unique way and this story is different enough to feel interesting. The world feels fleshed out with potential and the story takes the time to question the system. Give it a try.

a good first book.

I really enjoyed this book. I understand why some people didn't or won't like this book because the MC is an overly optimistic pacifist but I found it refreshing and a good pallet cleanser from all the op grim-dark and min-max books iv been getting. anyway if you like the MC from the wandering inn or how to defeat a demon lord in 10 easy steps you'll probably like this book.

Already hooked

I'm only halfway through, but I love it. Though there's a phrase that almost physically hurts when I hear it..."Excess Exp" being the first part. Every gamer will understand when they hear the full phrase lol.

Lack of Agency

DNF. There wasn't anything tremendously wrong with this audiobook I was a couple hours in when I quit I was just bored and the main character was just...nothing. She was played as a mousy office worker and that didn't seem to be changing once she got into the new universe. What made it worse for me was at least the whole first part of the book leaned on her having and over powered luck stat. She didn't have to ever do anything the second anything made a move at her they 'luckily' died. Jane just wandered with no plans or will from one situation to another that just solved itself for her due to the luck stat. She made almost zero choices and wasn't even quick on the on the uptake. Doesn't make for an engaging character or story.

Chronic pacifism and plot armor

This is a well written book. If not for the MCs determination not to defend her self under ANY circumstances I would continue the series just to see what happens next. But I can't suffer a person that won't defend themselves when the situation calls for it. Also don't like her decision to cripple a sentient race making them extremely vulnerable to genocide because she doesn't agree with violence. Then there is her plot armor. The author didn't even try to hide it, they just quantified it utilizing one of her stats. So she pumps this stat, like an idiot, and has a legitimate reason to have OP plot armor.

Again, and I'm not being facetious, the book is very well written. Which is why I give an overall rating of 4 stars instead of 3. I just really dislike people that refuse to fight and defend themselves and rely on those stronger to defend them. Which is this MC.

refreshing

she may be a pacifist but she is op just the way I like it. I stopped listening when I found out she put all stats in luck but if you keep listening it is worth it

From game tester to Luck stat master....?

Why have skills when the luck stat can do it all for you? why I did not like this book. sorry. Mobs dropped dead around the MC just because of their luck stat. I get it, i have read Luck Stat books before, but this one they start off getting stats from everything and applying them to they luck. Way over powered. Monsters just fall over and die. sorry to sound harsh but that is what it all started. I tried to give this book a go.. i really did. The over all story I was hoping was good, a survival in the desert, but that was just "Walking in sunshine".

This was a fun read. it had me laughing throughout! Not your usual Sci-fi.

The title and blurb gave me the impression of something a little more serious. The way Jane "killed" predators in the beginning seemed way too easy but is explained later in the book. The way she "slew" then, is balanced by her effort in solving moral dilemmas later. The narration contributed to the story's quirkiness but I will feel better next time by turning down the volume a little more. No cliff hangers but all the story elements make me want to read the next book(s).
