Acerca de esta escucha

“A steamy heist thrill ride I never wanted to end. The combustive chemistry between Celeste and Magnus kept me turning the pages of this witty, second-chance love story.”—Regina Black, author of The Art of Scandal

Two career thieves reunite for one last job and must put their messy romantic past behind them to pull off the jewel heist of the century in this scorching, action packed romance!

He was her partner—both in crime and between the sheets. It’s been five years since professional thief Celeste St. Pierre laid eyes on Magnus Larsson. These days, she runs a Manhattan antique store, but her talent for stealing beautiful, shiny things hasn’t faded. And as a chance reunion over a locked safe proves, neither has the heat between her and the gorgeous, ice-cool Magnus.

For Magnus, only one thing beats the thrill of getting away with robbery—and that’s the woman he’s tried hard to forget. Their last job together ended in disaster. But if they’re going to honor their mentor’s last wishes to pull off the theft of the century, they’ll have to temporarily put their grudges behind them.

Crisscrossing Europe on a real-life treasure hunt, Celeste and Magnus quickly rediscover how well they work together. The higher the stakes, the hotter the sexual tension. But one slipup and it won’t be only jewels on the line, but a future that, just maybe, has been the ultimate prize all along…

What if Doris Payne ran a ring?

I enjoyed the references to Doris Payne, who is a real life jewel theif who traveled the world and stole jewelry along with her partner Harold Bronfield. The Doris in this fictional story ran a team which includes our couple Celeste and Magnus. After a caper goes awry, Magnus swears off the team and goes his own way for a few years until he is compelled to join the team again for one last job at the request of their deceased mentor. The best things about this book is Doris telling her life history in her diary and the chemistry between Magnus and Celeste.

Tons of sexual tension with an attentive male lead

If you like down-bad male leads, then this book is definitely worth a shot. The spy stuff is also fun and adds tension while the side characters add to the humor of the story. The female lead is stubborn but still able to make good decisions. There’s A LOT of sexual tension in the book, so if you’re not into the two leads being horny 80% of the time, then this might be a difficult listen. But, between you and me, the way he talks to her in those tense moments is *chef kiss*.
And the narrator did an awesome job voicing all the characters. I’m so impressed!

Shockingly bland heist romance

This felt like it’d be right up my Ocean’s 11 loving alley, but none of the characters, heists, or romance did anything for me. Maybe it was the matter of fact (yet oddly fast) narration, where there are no cries of pain as he notes he’s never been shot before and there are no gasps or yelling when folks are nabbed by the cops, Maybe it was the flat dialogue, or the smattering of unnecessary F bombs and JCs, or the repetition of phrases like “micro expression” or “thighs clenched.” Maybe it was the mild sex scenes when the summary advertised “super spicy.” Maybe it was the majority of the book devoted to them bemoaning the Stockholm caper and bickering about blah-blah relationships. Maybe it was the lack of a chew-the scenery antagonist to build suspense. Maybe it was all of these things together that made this bland.
