About this listen

Jessie: Bride of South Carolina is the eighth of 50 in the unprecedented American Mail-Order Brides series.

Tired of living under her father's iron thumb of control, Jessie Wilcox decides to do the unthinkable: run away to Montana as a mail-order bride. The only obstacle in her way: the 100 miles between her home in Williamsburg County and the train depot in Charleston.

Joel Cunningham is in utter disbelief when the girl he once loved beyond reason is on his front porch asking him to disobey her father's wishes and drive her to Charleston. Logic and reason scream no; his lips, however, say yes.

Will the 100 miles ahead of them be enough to overcome the five years of painful regrets, or will Jessie follow her dream for a new life in Montana?

This is a little different

This is more of a story of lost love due to an over baring father who is just right down controlling and mean. Has a great plot with delightful characters who know what they want. I really enjoyed the humor and had to chuckle a few times. When one falls in love so young but only to have that taken away and not know the reason why is heartbreaking. Jessie never know why Joel didn't want to be her friend anymore and he couldn't tell her. Over night their friendship and love was gone. I really liked how the author laid it all out and how a little excitement and danger was brought into the story. I was surprised at how her father was dealt with but it made a wonderful ending. The mail order bride comes about in a strange but interesting way.

The narrator did a good job, you always knew who was talking and their feeling. Her character voices were good, some better than others. There was no background noise, there was a few repeating of words but that wasn't bad, no volume changes, was a very clear audio. I thought she gave the characters true emotions you always knew what they were feeling and who was talking.
