Though our understanding of autism has greatly expanded, many autistic individuals are still missed or misdiagnosed. This highly accessible book clarifies many ways that autism can present, particularly in people who camouflage to hide their autistic traits.
The authors take the listener step by step through the diagnostic criteria, incorporating the latest research as well as quotes from over 100 autistic contributors that bring that research to life. They also describe many aspects of autism that are not included in the current diagnostic criteria, such as autistic strengths and co-occurring disorders. A valuable guide to identifying less obvious presentations of autism
This audiobook takes a holistic look at autism. it describes in detail the DSM-5 criteria, but is not overly bound to a DSM view of autism. I appreciated the chapter at the very end on autistic strengths. I also appreciated the many quotes by people interviewed with autism.

Excellent, Comprehensive, and Compassionate
The book I wish every therapist I ever went to had read and internalized. Autistic people often spend a lot of time educating professionals about autism. It is rerefreshing to see neurotypical therapists accurately educating everyone else about autism.

Concise, Clear, and Easy
This book is so well written. It covers all of the important aspects of autism and fully explains the nuances of the DSM-5 TR diagnostic criteria as well as areas in which the criteria (the way most understand them) may fall short. This book is helpful for anyone interested in learning more about autism. As a child and adolescent psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner specializing in ASD, ADHD, and, OCD, I found the information extremely useful. This book will be a key resource when articulating aspects of autism to my patients and their families. I am excited to read the companion book.
