About this listen

Golden Heart Finalist in the YA Category.

Peterson. Amanda Peterson. When my life suddenly turns into the Princess Diaries meets Mission Impossible, can I do in a week what I haven't managed to do in all my fifteen years - reel in a hottie?

When Amanda spends a week with her aunt, Christie, she learns that her aunt is a spy. Christie admits that Amanda has security clearance and has already started her training. When her aunt asks her to investigate a teenage hacker, Amanda thinks that spending time with a nerd should be doable despite her social ineptitude. Unfortunately for Amanda, the hacker is a hottie.

A Nice Light Tale For the Younger Readers

I knew going in that Investigating the Hottie was for younger readers. I like to hear some lighter fare now and then. The story did not disappoint. There was some suspension of disbelief, but nothing like some superkids type tales out there. The reader was good and changed characters and emotions well. My only issue with the reader was that she had a very nasal voice. Whether that was on purpose in order to sound younger or it was just her normal time, I don't know. Overall it was a very good departure from more involved thrillers & mysteries.

Spy, Teenage Spy

Any additional comments?

Investigating the Hottie is the story of 15 year old Amanda Peterson and the fall break she spends with her Aunt Christie. Amanda thinks her aunt is a perpetual student. After all at 35, Christie does have 3 advanced degrees. Amanda is in for a shock when she finds out that Christie is actually a spy. While spending the break with Christie, Amanda is asked to do a little investigating work to help track down a teenage hacker. Amanda is all for it but becomes unsure of herself when she realizes that the hacker is a hottie!

This is the second book of Ms. Alexander's that I have listened to. She really has a sense of the 'teenage voice'. The characters are well developed and the mystery is fun.

Ms. Jacobs again comes through with great narration. She also has a handle on the 'teenage voice'. Ms. Jacobs draws you into the story with her ability to give each character their own voice. She also does well with the pacing and emotions.

I would recommend this book to anyone 13+ years and older. The story is good and the characters are engaging. I would listen to this one again.
