About this listen

By the time you're scared....

It begins with the abductions. In a single night, thousands of small children vanish from their beds.

It's too late.

A day later meteorites hit the Earth, releasing strange dust into the air.

They are here....

The dead rise, ravenous. The living dragged underground by creatures out of nightmares.

And they can smell your blood.

There is nowhere to run.

Interesting Alien/Zombie concept for a storyline

Not bad but not great ! There were many things the survivors could have done to keep safe. For instance if UV lights worked as a weapon then why didn’t they surround the compound with big UV lights? Or get tractor and dig up the holes during the day. Also why would Zoey be looking for sister in place that was many miles from where they lived. It made no sense at all I’m quite sure the Aliens had clusters of holes and tunnels all over the place. The main character could have been stronger and used logic over emotions to make decisions. I will read the second book I’m hoping she develops into stronger and smarter thinking survivor .

Heather Ross reads this like a third grade book report.

I never write reviews on Audible, but this performance by Heather was just so bad. She has no style and overdramatizes all the wrong moments.

The book itself was silly. But, well, zombies.... so.... Anyway, small errors like calling a Honda Pilot a truck, when it is in fact an SUV really made me question the authors knowledge base.

We have been invaded. that’s just the beginning

We are not alone on earth. We have been invaded. And that’s just the beginning.

The book takes place in a world that is under attack. Meteors are crashing into buildings and the meteor dust may be causing people who died to get up and walk the earth looking for their next meal. Enter Zoe, a 17-year-old unlikely protagonist. Barely 100 pounds and scared to death. She is forced to face some of her biggest fears and she starts to realize what is going on in the world. Kids are disappearing and returning… but different. Then zombies attack, then other things attack. In this fast-paced novel from the viewpoint of a 17-year-old girl you will be left feeling powerful and helpless depending on the scene.

This novel was narrated by Heather Ross, and this is my first book narrated by her. Her narration style for this book was a straight narration with a few times she acted out a few whispers or yells. The quality of the audiobook was great, with no issues at all (no background sounds, good sound, no pops or clicks or issues). My biggest complaint about the narration was that it felt slow. I don’t know if that was the choice of the narrator, or if it was how the book was meant to be read. I actually sped the narration up to 1.5x at some points to have it read at a faster pace for myself. Now, the actual narration, while good, was annoying to me at some points which I think was done on purpose to make the listener feel like they were in fact listening to a 17-year-old.

Overall this book had moments where I was going to lose interest but then the author drew me back in. The protagonist gave no reason to like or dislike her within the first few pages of the novel. But once Zoe gets into contact with her companion, I enjoyed her much more. And even more so once she comes into contact with others. Upon finishing this book, I noticed that it was a series. The ending felt complete, and this could be considered to be a stand-alone book. I think that Tracy Sharp could write more in this world, but it could also be pushing it too much. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see what happens to Zoe.
