Excellent Intro To Christian Mysticism

Egan has provided the most exceptional basic introduction to mysticism I’ve heard thus far. This course of lectures provides a simple way for anyone to gain a comprehensive overview on the subject. The listener will benefit from a balanced teacher’s explorations and explanations of the teachings of a variety of saints throughout church history who were blessed to experience, serve, and share these gifts with the wider body of Christ.

The mystics presented in this audiobook collectively paint an inspiring picture of Christ his saints. The various mystics herein presented are different in many ways, demonstrating that the Christian mystic does not suffer absolute dissolution of personality while attaining to divine union. These short talks deserve a wide listening audience.

A Master of Mysticsm

Fr. Harvey Egan is one of a handful of people in the world who truly understand the Christian Mystical tradition. This audio course is his teaching magnum opus. I found his lectures at once accessible/humble and profound. Egan is clearly influenced by his teacher, Karl Rahner, but this series spans the breadth of mystical traditions, striking balance between the perspectives of various mystics and the theologians and writers who have contemplated their works. I found his lecture style upbeat, engaging. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in succinct survey of mysticism. Frankly, I was inspired.

A good overview of Christian mystics. I was hoping for a more in depth of the mystical process and it’s utility to forge a greater understanding of the mechanism of reality and consciousness. However it introduced me to mystics that may do just that

I really enjoyed this book. It brought out a clarity to my curiosity of the life of the mystics from their view point. The information was very beneficial to my own personal studies, and I am very grateful for it. I highly recommend this book. Very easy to understand.
