About this listen

Jeremiah Overton is now in charge of Darwin’s Bureau of Meteorology, and his storm chaser boyfriend, Tully Larson, couldn’t be happier. For Tully, it means watching summer storms with the love of his life. But for Jeremiah, it means relearning everything on equipment that’s older than he is.

But summer storms also mean it’s cyclone season. While Tully’s no stranger to tropical storms and the occasional cyclone, it’s a first for Jeremiah.

As Tropical Cyclone Hazer bears down on the city, Jeremiah and Tully prepare to stay behind. Jeremiah knows what to expect, theoretically, but living through it is a different story.

If they live through it at all....

Fantastic!

family-dynamics, family-drama, siblings, love, anger, angst, grief, m/m-romance, made-me-smarter, contemporary, meteorology, Australian-author, Australia*****

In the US it's called a Cat 5 hurricane and in the South Pacific/Australia it's called a cyclone. Either way it is of the devil.
Way up north in the tropical town of Darwin is where Tully and his family have their homes and run a massive cartage/shipping company. Jeremiah has been unceremoniously dumped into the regional meteorological station whose equipment came over on the ark. Enter a massive and devastating cyclone, an aggressively heartless film crew, and Jeremiah meets the family (and a side order of heroism). Fantastic love story!
Meanwhile I got to learn a lot about that part of Australia and its fantastic weather phenomena as well as how the early warning system is supposed to work!
Glen LLoyd is an excellent Aussie voice actor and perfect in this context.

enoyed it

📖 Story comment: Good pace, likeable characters, entertaining story.
I enjoyed both Tully and Jeremiah's characters, they're both charming and likeable Aussie guys. OMG what a wild few hours - I loved the way "old tech" helped save the day! I can't vouch for the accuracy of the weather phenomena, but it doesn't matter, NR Walkers words paint vivid pictures with great worldbuilding and I look forward to the next book in the series.

🎧 Narration comment: Glen Lloyd's narration just keeps getting better. I had no problem distinguishing characters, his rhythm, tone and inflections have done a great job bringing the book to life.

Romantic and exciting

In the second book of the Storm Boys series Tully and Jeremiah’s new relationship is going strong and they’ve
moved in together in Tully’s coastal hometown, Darwin Australia. Jeremiah has barely touched the antiquated control panels and weather detection devices at his new job at the weather station when a terrifying storm gathers energy and momentum as it barrels south from Asia straight towards Darwin. NR Walker convincingly writes the story of the race to prepare the station, get notifications out to a complacent populace, secure Tully’s family into a safe home. There’s an urgent undertone of desperation and worry that comes through, which of course ups the reader’s attention and anxiety as well. The description of living through the storm, now rated a Cat 5 cyclone, is exciting and if one imagines being there, absolutely terrifying.
Excellent narration!!!!

In the eye of the storm

This is my favorite of the 3 main stories. the tension of the storm and the emotions between the MCs and family and friends just caught me. I'm sure it's not the most realistic, but I really enjoyed it. Jeremiah reminds me very much of Lawson from the Imago series.
