About this listen

Some families are created in different ways but are still, in every way, a family.

Writer and star of My Big Fat Greek Wedding Nia Vardalos firmly believed she was supposed to be a mom, but Mother Nature and modern medicine had put her in a headlock. So she made a choice that shocked friends, family, and even herself: with only 14 hours' notice, she adopted a preschooler.

Instant Mom is Vardalos' hilarious and poignant true chronicle of trying to become a mother while fielding nosy "frenemies" and Hollywood reporters asking, "Any baby news?" With her signature wit and candor, she describes her and husband Ian Gomez's bumpy road to parenting, how they found their daughter, and what happened next. Vardalos includes a comprehensive how-to-adopt section and explores innovative ways to conquer the challenges all new moms face, from sleep to personal grooming. She learns that whether via biology, relationship, or adoption - motherhood comes in many forms.

In Instant Mom, Vardalos shares the terrifying joys of parenthood and for the first time reveals her stubborn optimism and perseverance on her trek to finally becoming a mom, instantly.

As a person Who has never been a mother themselves until my two little foster girls were placed in my life, I am so thankful for her fun and enlightening story of what it’s like to be a mom after those many years and what a great person to be able to tell the story when you have the humor that she does

Great job telling a great story

I really enjoyed this book, and was sad when it ended. It's such a heartfelt and sweet story. It also brought tears to my eyes a few times, and it's funny as hell!

Nia and Ian are so relatable as parents and as people. I wish I could go to one of their dinner parties!

A great book for any parent or parent to be

incredible book and made into an even funnier, interesting listen because it is read by the author. i cried and laughed my way through this book. Thank you Nia for writing it and turning it into an audio book. I'm hoping for a sequel.

A Must Listen!

As a new parent, I found myself crying or laughing so hard, I nearly peed. Weirdly enough (or not), I also found myself wishing Nia and Ian could be my parents. Even if you aren't a parent, this is a wonderful read/listen. If you have questions about adoption, it has an invaluable perspective from Nia. It certainly opened my eyes. She is so down to earth, warm and funny and has a great narration style as well. Looking forward to any follow up books. She has such a gift and her family is blessed to have her, as are we.

Loved it!

I loved Nia’s candor on her journey..yes, even the not so happy parts. Why? It’s all real. Life is usually not the perfectly wrapped package with the flawless bow on top. Her’s is no different. Although difficult to write about, she shows you her pain and then shows you how she not only healed this wound, but her daughter’s as well. She also included enough belly laughs to make it easy to get through. In the end, she offers a wealth of knowledge to help you navigate your own journey if you choose to go on it.

A wealth of information for those who wish to adopt

It's nice to find a book that focuses on adopting through foster care, since there are not many. And having someone's personal experience is insightful. Although it could have done without all the name dropping and bragging...

Great for anyone adopting from foster care
