Don't just let influence just happen to you. Instead, take charge of your life by grasping the science behind how influence works and by strengthening your own skills at using it to your advantage. In this dynamic 12-lecture series, you'll discover how to tap into the hidden powers of influence - and use these powers to enhance your life in ways you never thought possible.

Using clear and accessible language, Professor Brown teaches you how and why influence works. You'll explore the four key factors involved in influence attempts; delve into exciting psychological and sociological research and experiments; ponder the ethics surrounding influence by studying the lives of historical leaders (and despots); get solid tips for becoming more influential; and hone your skills with simple exercises for everyday living. By the final lecture, you'll be able to harness the power of influence at home, at work, at the store, in your social life, and anywhere else you may need it.

The Dark side of Influence

What an informative book. Ironic that I listened as the State Capital was over run.

Interesting lecture series

The best part for me was the lecturer - I enjoyed his presentation style, voice, and would have loved to have had him as a professor. I also found the content interesting, but I would say this had less impact on me than the humanities-type Great Courses. He did couple what I would say are common sense observations with studies and research, and that part was fascinating. Completely enjoyable but not as educational for me as compared to more traditional subjects. If you are in the market for one of the business/self-improvement type Great Courses, I would definitely recommend this one.

Influence

Really enjoyed the illustrations this author used throughout the lectures. The stories and examples he shared brought to life varying techniques of communication, negotiation, and approaches to situations.

The lectures include practical exercises that can be applied in the organization. As a researcher myself, I appreciate that the author shared original research, names of the studies, etc. so we can review on our own. It is reassuring the work presented here is centered on a solid body of research. Great course!

Possibly the most useful lecture I've heard so far

I think I learned things. I'd probably say that I'm a better person for it.

enjoyed most of the book

annoying use of "her" for all anonymous third part descriptions. seems counterproductive when writing a book about influencing others, while annoying them
