About this listen

A hopeful and controversial view of the universe and ourselves based on the principles of quantum physics, offering a way of making our lives and the world better, with a foreword by Deepak Chopra.

In Infinite Potential, physical chemist Lothar Schäfer presents a stunning view of the universe as interconnected, nonmaterial, composed of a field of infinite potential, and conscious. With his own research as well as that of some of the most distinguished scientists of our time, Schäfer moves us from a reality of Darwinian competition to cooperation, a meaningless universe to a meaningful one, and a disconnected, isolated existence to an interconnected one. In so doing, he shows us that our potential is infinite and calls us to live in accordance with the order of the universe, creating a society based on the cosmic principle of connection, emphasizing cooperation and community.

Critic reviews

"When quantum physics emerged in the 20th century, many of its grand architects believed it held valuable lessons for how we lead our lives. In Infinite Potential, Dr. Lothar Schäfer shows why. What emerges is not just a beautiful exposition of modern physics, but a powerful bridge that connects science, psychology, and spirituality. One cannot be a proper citizen of the 21st century without an awareness of the lessons in this gem of a book." (Larry Dossey, MD, author of Reinventing Medicine, The Power of Premonitions, and The One Mind)
"In this learned and daring analysis of the revolution in quantum physics, Lothar Schäfer opens a door that cannot be closed: Science is teaching us that the world, and our role in it, is malleable to human choice and awareness. This radical truth, as Schäfer explores, may shift our sense of possibility and self-conception in the 21st century in a manner similar to how Darwinism challenged human perceptions in the Victorian Age." (Mitch Horowitz, author of Occult America and One Simple Idea: The Secret History of How Positive Thinking Reshaped America)

Wow - Simple yet deeply profound.

One of the best reads around in regards to quantum physics and spirituality. Really helped me make sense of potentiality and being in the flow of the universe.

Eye Opening and Life Changing

I’ve always been drawn to explore the intersection of science and spirituality. Even though I am not a scientist, I have tremendous respect for science as a means of understanding reality. I have always felt that science and spirituality were two sides of the same coin. This book is grounded in the science of quantum mechanics, and the author expertly lays out the basics of the quantum world for the lay person. That is one of the many excellent qualities of this work. The author is also a scholar of philosophy. He shows the reader/listener how these two ways of exploring and understanding reality are indeed leading to the top of the same mountain. The performance by the narrator is magnificent! I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to better understand some seemingly incomprehensible and intriguing topics that will help us fulfill our potential and live in accordance with the order of this mysterious and meaningful universe.

Eye opening and confirming

I found this book quite eye opening. I have really no background in physics but the book was easy to follow and I became absorbed in his writing. Many of the ideas I’ve felt or thought through out my childhood and adulthood were brought into focus and confirmed. My favorite part was his wrap up lecture at the end. I wish he had been one of my college professors!! So glad I found his book!

I love Audible books, but my first recommend!

This is a remarkable, fascinating, and inspirational book. So good, in fact, that I'm going to buy a hard copy. As a physician I love the way he melds heart and mind, soul and body.
It's not the easiest read, and you do have to think a bit, unlike a David Balducci novel, for instance (I do like his novels, BTW). But you don't have to be a scientist to follow his thinking.
I would recommend it most highly to anyone with a philosophical and/or scientific bent.

Thought Provoking

A very unique perspective on reality. This book has the potential to create a paradigm shift for many. It was fascinating to hear about the quantum physics phenomena that correlate to our daily lives, and it's not something I'll forget. As mentioned by other reviewers, the last chapter in which the author speaks, is the most engaging part of the book. If you enjoyed this book I would also highly recommend Eckhart Tolle's "A New Earth".

Mind-boggling.

I love the application of principles from quantum physics to spirituality and morality. This is truly in line stretching book.

A delight

This book is a delight. Fun to read, easy to understand (even for laymen) and can be put to use.

Mixing quantum theory with wishful thinking.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would be particular to whom I recommended this book.

Has Infinite Potential turned you off from other books in this genre?

No. But this book is an example of someone turning science into a belief system or in support of a believe system.

Would you be willing to try another one of John H. Mayer and Shishir Kurup ’s performances?

No.

Did Infinite Potential inspire you to do anything?

The author starts out as a scientist and then makes monumental jumps in logic and belief. What is mentioned as a scientific possibility early in the book becomes a premise for spiritual assumptions later in the book. Quantum theory is a squishy basis for concluding that the universe is a mind. I love the idea but Mayer is making so many twists of language and scientific theory to make his idea a truth that I find his logic faulty. There is a lot of wishful thinking in his statements.

Any additional comments?

You can't jump back and forth from the invisible quantum world to the field of ethics and morality so easily. I would have enjoyed it more if he continued on the scientific side. Actually, he was doing a pretty good job trying to describe quantum theory - - if that's possible.

Beginning is ok, middle is boring

I got lost in the middle of the book and pretty bored. The beginning was better and more interesting.

yawn! snore! zzzzzz! The only exciting part was the very last chapter when the author is speaking. Wouldn't recommend listening to this narrator again
