About this listen

In this riveting follow-up to the best seller Everything Your Coach Never Told You Because You're a Girl, Coach Dan Blank takes aim at the warm and fuzzy double-standard facing those who coach female athletes and reveals the philosophies and methods that sparked a culture of unapologetic competitiveness in a women’s college soccer team that won more games than it was ever supposed to win.

In My Tribe is written specifically for coaches looking to develop a competitive culture within their teams and recounts the author's experience coaching a group of rebellious over-achievers, who became notorious for their commitment to extinguishing the spirit of their opponents.

In My Tribe details Coach Blank’s unconventional approach to culture-building, from selecting captains and indoctrinating rookies, to aggression, accountability, and self-governance. This book also includes a Tools of the Tribe section - specific exercises that helped to build a culture where teammates were ferociously loyal, where everyone was accountable, and where winning was the only acceptable outcome.

Written in Blank’s familiar, pull-no-punches style, In My Tribe speaks directly to coaches who strive to build a competitive culture that teaches girls to win, win big, and to never, ever apologize for it.

Loved this book. Make sure you have a pen and a pad of paper to take notes on different techniques and ideas to add to your coaching repertoire for changing your culture. Loved his other book “everything your coach never told you because you’re a girl.” & soccer IQ, book one and book two. These four books are a must read for ALL Coaches and most athletes if you want to change the culture of your team and achieve a winning, “grit ‘r done”atmosphere.

Great book and guide for coaches

It was an exceptional book that not only tells a story, but gives the reader real ways to teach players. A must read for coaches who want more tools in their toolbox!

Phenomenal

A wonderful book not only about the importance of team relationships but practicable and actionable information on ways to cultivate and harvest it. Every coach, whether coaching men or woman should take the time to listen and read this.

Entertaining, Enlightening, Inspiring

I am glad I finished this book. It is overall worth the read/listen.

But I have to say, I almost didn't. It starts of promising but quickly loses itself in countless disjointed lengthy stories that seem to serve no particular purpose. Yes, they are related to the title, but it is more often than not missing a point the author is seemingly trying to make but hiding very well.

It often is also repetitive. Yes, what he wants to drive home is a winning mentality culture but that is clear after the first few examples and the many more he brings up really do not add much more fodder.

The good news is this book redeems itself in its last chapter. Yes, you heard/read that right. But that chapter pulls everything together in terms of tools and a lot of the previous stories actually get repeated (in very brief fashion, so you kinda need the rest of the book for context) to introduce each and every tool. Useful tools. Practical tools. Actual learnings and takeaways from this book.

So yes, this was a useful listen to me, but it took forever to get there and the story was a bit over the top. In fact I at times wonder whether all stories truly happened or just serve the storytelling purpose. The amount of luck and good timing it something else, but I chose to believe the author because I am a glass half full kinda person :)

Lengthy, repetitive then gaining steam

As a female, soccer coach, and former player, I found this book inspiring. FINALLY someone had the courage to put it on paper. Have implemented many of the concepts with my own team, and it's been a great experience. Highly recommend.

LOVE this & "Everything Your Coach Never Told You"

Outstanding book with great ideas for overcoming the constraints society knowingly and unknowingly places on females encouraging them to stay in their lane.

Must read for coaches of females

It was hard at first getting past the narrators voice. But once I did the content was a great detailed look into how to build a culture for your soccer team.

Better than I expected
