while I did not agree with some of the authors interpretation of biblical ideology, I nonetheless was inspired by her story. speaking her truth I could feel my spirit rise. this book will go beyond denominational politics and speak to every Christian ✝️

Wonderful book!
This book took me back to childhood memories of my grandmother and my early life attending church. While I would never claim to think that my memories echo those of Ms. Pierce, her stories are relatable and well told. They also gave an insight into life and hardships of People of Color in a white supremacy world.

Soul fulfilling
Pierce is honest and truthful about her spiritual formation and how her theology has been shaped by her grandmother, the black church, and a life lived as a theologian. Her stories are beautiful and make you proud of your own history as a black woman. I stopped many times and prayed, cried, and gave thanks.

Challenging, yet inspiring
It was difficult to hear the stories of our plight as black women in America but I am glad I continued to listen until the end. The stories then captured the resilience, strength, wisdom and compassion that is uniquely ours.
