About this listen

American Alexandra Freemar isn't about to put up with any flak from the uptight - albeit gorgeous - Scotland Yard inspector who accuses her of breaking and entering. She doesn't have time. She has two months in London to write the perfect romance novel - two months to prove that she can succeed as an author. Luckily, reserved Englishmen are not her cup of tea. Yet....

Listen if you want to feel better about yourself

I only listened to the end because I hate not finishing books and I also was hoping she would get better. Every time it looked like Alix was redeeming herself, she would take like 6 steps backwards. She's super delusional and thinks like the world is out to get her. I get that she has insecurities, we all do, but holy cheerios Batman. This was so painful to sit through. I would have rather learned about the other tenants. Bert and Ray sounded far more interesting than Alix and I would have rather heard about their than Alix's incessant complaining and accusations of rejection. I thought I was bad in my teenage years, I feel much better about myself after listening to this character. She got *slightly* better at the end and but man, it was a journey to get there. There are definitely better books out there if you would rather not listen to constant pity parties. I don't ever leave reviews but this was just hard.

blah *spoilers*

I have yet to finish this but wanted to get something up beforehand and hope that it changes. So far I cannot stand Alex. She is painfully dumb and the whole story feels like just that, a story. I've read supernatural books that are more realistic. Everything just feels over done or overdramatic. And the excerpts from the book Alex is trying to write; so much cringe it's painful. She clearly isn't a writer or even a romance reader so this desire to be a romance writer makes zero sense.
Only time will tell if I'm able to grit through this book.

Sadly the plot equals the quality of the story, bad

The plot of this story, about a woman writing a bad novel, came to fruition in this book. I never start a book without seeing it through which was the only reason I finished. The female protagonist is a dreadful sort of psycho personality. I cannot understand why the male lead did not jus move on. Not worth your time!

I like Katie MacAlister

So I wanted to love this book because I love books written in England from an American perspective. However, I get that the main character is supposed to struggle with their emotions/ history, but it sometimes became almost too dramatic. I would have liked the male voice to have been performed by an actually been a male. Cute story line, and I actually laughed out loud several times in the beginning. Books that make me LOL are always a win for me.

Annoying lead

The lead character was annoying. She was made so pathetic and selfish that all I could think is she must be really good looking because her personality was shit. Why a partner or friend would put up with her I don’t know.

Really, really, painfully bad

This was a very bad romance about an annoying young woman who painstakingly writes... bad romances. Don't take me wrong. The story had potential. A London house full of captivating residents whose stories could be fascinating on their own. But no! The whole book focus on the main female character, who is a selfish, self-centered, insecure little piece of nuisance. And if it wasn't enough, the author took several unnecessary hours stretching the misery.
This will definitely go into the history of very bad-story books!

Don’t waste your time

The only reason I finished this book was to hear the other characters tell the main character that she sucked. Obnoxious character you don’t route for and I literally yelled multiple times telling her she’s annoying. Don’t waste your time on this one.

Main character is so annoying

If you can get to the end without cringing 1000 times then you are better than me. The main character is so childish and annoying and I am glad the book was free.

The meta Lady Rowena book is terrible.

This book’s plot isn’t terrible, but oh my GOD is the book the protagonist writes is just AWFUL! Why should we be subjected to listening to/reading that horrid book at the start of each chapter? The whole plot point with that is that it’s terrible…so why should we have to deal with it?

Very Interesting

I enjoyed the narrator very well and the story was quite entertaining, well written actually. The two main characters were both named Alex. The female although beautiful and talented, had a self-centered, selfish personality but she was well matched to the very handsome English gentleman even though he seemed a bit stuffy and quiet. Did the banshe soften and learn the world didn't revolve around her? Well, you'll have to read it for yourself. Enjoy
