About this listen

Commit an online crime, go to an online jail. In this MMORPG penal colony, inmates PVP to gain EXP, loot, and most of all...survive.

Seph has been sentenced to play in one of these virtual correctional facilities. Sounds fun right? Maybe for some, but there is no worse punishment for Seph, mostly because he isn't a gamer. Will he be able to complete his sentence with all the trials and objectives thrown at him? Trapped in a virtual world he cannot escape, Seph now has to step outside of his comfort zone and align himself with the very thing he's been rebelling against his whole life - the system.

Sick of the same old LITRPG tropes? Try something different with this character-driven story.

I'm really trying to get into it

I'm really trying to get through this. it takes almost half the book to get into the game and then the m.c. just keeps getting worse and worse.
the game mechanics are ok. pretty fun but the m.c. kinda ruins it.

enjoyable story

little different then other litRPGs. story is well written with a cool universe/ game line. only thing that was a little annoying was calling stuff racist or hinting at it being for dumb reasons. same with how naive the mc is.

narration is done well

looking forward to the next book

Leadite forced into a game!

Solid story and narration!

Our MC is an angsty teenager rebelling against a digital society. People rarely leave the confines of VR, and he avoids it in rebellion. Until he crosses a line and is sentenced to prison where he will be forced into VR for the duration! Skipping the tutorial he realizes that he has no idea what is going on. Will our angsty MC be able to rally? Will he learn to enjoy a Gameworld?

Crystal Wikoff does a good job with narration.

While I struggles with the early portion of this book, the MC does eventually get his act together and things get quite interesting.

The series shows potential - I'm interested to find out what happens in the next book.

Fun and Engaging LitRPG

I did enjoy listening to this story; both the real-life and in-game sections were engaging. It should be mentioned that the real-life section of the story takes up the first few hours, but that isn't a complaint. I actually enjoyed the real-life section since it showed the author's vision of the future.

The protagonist, Seph (short for Sephiroth), hates video games. He also routinely makes bad life choices. He seems to have a grudge against AIs and honestly, it was cathartic to watch the machines get back at him. His ability to make bad choices follows him into the game world, which I found rather amusing.

The narration was well done and the narrator did a good job of voicing the various characters.

Slow but good

The beginning is pretty slow and almost through me off. I didn't really like the aspect of the kid being essentially neglected by his folks. It give a whole new meaning to virtual nanny with the AI thing. Otherwise this was decent.

Great listen!

Thoroughly enjoyed it. Brought back a lot of memories of getting griefed in online games... Just like the character, there were a lot of growing pains. I kind of felt bad for him, once he had a lucky break, seemed like there was something always there to bring him down. I cannot wait to see what P.A. has in store for him in the next book in the series.

Wow

I loved it. The only issue I had was the narrator was a female in the main character was male.

Moogie

The author provides a bleak view of the futuristic world devoid of human interaction. I found the narrators voice to be pleasant and despite being a book about a male MC being read to me by a female narrator the vocal ranges and personality injected into the characters allowed me full immersion into the story. The MC made me cringe so many times making newb mistakes that only a non gamer could pull off. The side chars were believable and very realistic of the types of other gamers one would run into if stuck in the scenario. TY for the excellent brain candy during my corona imprisonment.

Best LITRPG I've heard...

Seriously, I've heard a lot of LITRPG's. They're all the same overpowered, arrogant, zero challenge story.
NOT this one. It's different. Refreshingly so.
This book was well written, excellently narrated and very engaging.
I liked all the characters... even the unlikeable ones. They were all well developed but not overly so. That Mac Gavin tho... lol
This is more like the gaming story we all experience ourselves... We learn to become awesome enough to overcome opposition and reap the reward for becoming awesome.

I can't wait for the second book in this series!!
