About this listen
Imaginary Jesus is a hilarious, fast-paced, not-quite-fictional story that's unlike anything you've ever read before. When Matt Mikalatos realizes that his longtime buddy in the robe and sandals isn't the real Jesus at all, but an imaginary one, he embarks on a mission to find the real thing. On his wild ride through time, space, and Portland, Oregon, he encounters hundreds of other Imaginary Jesuses determined to stand in his way (like Legalistic Jesus, Perpetually Angry Jesus, and Magic 8 Ball Jesus). But Matt won't stop until he finds the real Jesus-and finally gets an answer to the question that's haunted him for years. Be warned: Imaginary Jesus may bring you face-to-face with an imposter in your own life.

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Story
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Story
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Story
In the not-too-distant future, a 21-member crew launches from Earth. Their mission: to establish a temporary colony on Mars. Little do they know that colony will become permanent–and the last stand of the human race. Because, without warning, every single person left on Earth simply...vanishes. Now, a thousand years later, the resources needed to sustain life are running out, and the very existence of the Mars colony is threatened. Humankind has only one option–to return to its home planet.

Laughing and crying and crying laughing
I read this in one sitting today and it took me on a wild ride. I’ll never look at a beagle the same again. A bear attack? Accidentally picking up a lady of the night? The president scrubbing your toilet? I loved this “true” story and I will take a lot of what I learned with me into my relationship with the real Jesus. 10/10

A humorous journey every Christian should read
Where does Imaginary Jesus rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Making God after our own image is all too often a common struggle. With so many opinions and differing voices out there it is hard not to get caught up in the sensationalism, trends and niches. Matt Mikalatos amusingly exposes these and helps to paint a true picture of Christ. More than once I caught myself laughing out loud at his witty narrative, but never once did I lose sight of the ultimate message, which is to search after God’s true heart.
What about Matt Mikalatos’s performance did you like?
The author narrates his own story with surprising skill, and as the listener, you know you are getting a timing and oration that are spot on.

Great book
Always love a different way to contemplate our spiritual journeys. We make Jesus who we want him to be more often then we want to think. This book brings this to light and helps us see Jesus for who he is.

Entertaining and original
A different and creative story for describing Jesus, or rather the many versions we imagine him to be. Entertaining! Great ending.

Quirky at first but stay with it!!!!
I promise that if you stay with this book, you will be glad you did. For a fundamentalist, this book would be hard to read or listen to but I believe it's core values and portrayal of Jesus are spot on!
A fun story, an interesting journey, a wild ride to a place we all should want to be, no matter hard or painful it is to get there.

Fantastic
Such a funny, unique take on wrestling with your faith. I loved the fact that it wasn’t just another theological academic book, but was actually a story that could be related to and enjoyed. Absolutely fantastic and a must read for everyone!

Love this book!
I own a physical copy of this book and read it years ago but wanted to have it read to me and go through it again. I messaged the author after I read it the first time, he’s a really nice guy.
We need an audio of the next book he wrote called “Night Of The Living Dead Christian!!”
