About this listen

If You Knew My Sister is a highly anticipated psychological suspense audiobook from debut author Michelle Adams.

If you knew my sister, you'd run, too....

First there was the Robert Kneel incident.

Then what happened to Margot Wolfe.

And now she's found me again.

Dr. Irini Harringford was given away by her parents just before her fourth birthday. Although she has spent her whole life trying to convince herself she doesn't need them, deep down Irini longs to understand why she was abandoned, while her parents kept her older sister, Elle.

So when Elle gets in touch with news that their mother has died, Irini reluctantly agrees to return to the family home. But she is ill at ease. She and Elle are not close. Irini knows only too well what Elle is capable of. Inexplicably drawn to her enigmatic sister, yet terrified of the sway she holds, Irini tries to protect herself even as she is sucked back into her family's toxic web of secrets...and soon realizes that the past is more complicated than she imagined, and that her very future rests upon discovering the truth about why she was really given away.

Slow start, but stick with it.

I feel like the payoff was worth wading through the beginning of the book!

What a great story

I can't believe someone thought of this story. It was creepy, exciting, thrilling and scary. I couldn't stop listening to see what happened next. A great narration made it even better. You won't regret this one! 😀😀😀

Not sure what to think...

The writer goes into unnecessary detail to describe the scenes until the very end. Then gets vague... I feel like the story was not completed.

Animal Cruelty Is NOT Entertainment

First of all, this story could have been so incredibly good, it wasn’t.
But it had all of the necessary raw ingredients for an “unputdownable” listen.
Problem 1) The Narration: I am not exaggerating when I say that it truly sounds as if our narrator cannot get through the material fast enough. It sounds like she’s literally running a marathon speed read. There are no dramatic pauses, there is very little, if any, change in cadence or tempo for necessary dramatic impact. I found myself wanting to scream “JUST TAKE A BREATH!!! Slow DOWN! Because the performer has a great voice. There is no issue there, but my gosh I couldn’t take it. It is insane sounding, this manic rushing, the reader can’t even keep up because the train is flying down the tracks, there is no time to absorb the story…
Problem (And BIG BIG PROBLEM FOR MANY OF US) Graphic and brutal descriptions of animal cruelty simply to illustrate some point about “how disturbed” certain characters are (in this case, the sister Elle) well, it’s THE LOWEST HANGING FRUIT. I find this coming up a lot lately in books, it’s a silly and exploitive short cut to express how emotionally unbalanced a character is and I find it ridiculous and offensive.
Furthermore, why would an author want readers to suffer through this kind of emotional pain, listening to graphic and intensely upsetting content related to harming animals???
What kind of person wants their readers to endure this kind of thing?
Like I said, sadly this story contained so many wonderful raw elements for a great and original read.
A creepy location, the mystery about why these girls were raised separately, all that’s happened in between, a totally relatable protagonist, etc but when you mar that with a marathon reading narrator and excessive violence, both towards animals as well as children, well, that’s where you lose me.
Minus the animal cruelty, and the insane levels of violence (towards CHILDREN NO LESS)maybe I could’ve skipped through some sections and slowed the speed down but enough is enough.
I couldn’t support this type of writing.
To intentionally upset and disturb the very people you rely on to buy your books with the lowest of low hanging fruit, well, just not no but HELL NO.
It reminds me of why I stopped listening to certain authors who feel the need to include near constant drug use in their work.
It’s cheap, irresponsible, and it isn’t original in any way, shape or form.
This book could have been phenomenal.
I really believed it would be, but when you start talking about killing family pets and brutally beating up young children, I’m out. For good.
