About this listen

A year ago, Jackson Burke was married to the love of his life and playing quarterback for the Texas Redhawks. Now he's retired and single. Just as he's starting to get used to his new life as a health and fitness columnist for Oxford magazine, his unpredictable ex shows up on his doorstep in Manhattan. Jackson should be thrilled, but he can't stop thinking about the one person who's always been there for him, the one girl he could never have: her younger sister. Mollie Carrington can't say no to Madison. After all, her older sister practically raised her. So when Madison begs for help in winning her ex-husband back, Mollie's just glad that she got over her own crush on Jackson ages ago - or so she thought. Because as Mollie reconnects with Jackson, she quickly forgets all her reasons to stay loyal to her sister. Tempted by Jackson's mellow drawl and cowboy good looks, Mollie is sick and tired of coming in second place - but she can't win if she doesn't play the game.

Predictable at parts but a great story

Predictable at parts but a great story. For a romance, there was a lot character growth.

Enjoyable, well-performed

Really great listen, a lovely story of a former Quarterback Jackson who is trying to find a new life after injury, and his ex-wife's younger sister, Molly, who he has had a great, long-standing close friendship with. Molly is a science nerd, who has had a long-standing crush on Jack, and is a quite relatable and likable character. Nice drama and fun as well...the ex-wife Madison is a nasty diva. Oh, the complexities of former sister and brother-in-law in a relationship! Really liked this.

Great Chemistry between Leads

What other book might you compare I Wish You Were Mine to and why?

I would compare it to Heat Wave by Karina Halle. Fools Rush In by Kristan Higgins can be compared to it as well.

What about Lucy Malone’s performance did you like?

I actually started reading this book the night before, but I had to stop because it was way past my bedtime! I picked it up back up in morning but had to purchase the audiobook (gotta love whispersynch!) because I had to know what was going to happen! That being said, when I listened to it it didn't quite match up with what I had in my head, so even though Lucy Malone gave a great performance it took me a little bit to get used to it. Had I have listened all the way through I would have enjoyed it more.

Any additional comments?

This story is told in 3rd person, but goes back and forth between the two leads, with Lucy Malone narrating the whole time. It would have been nice to have both a male and female narrator but that being said she did a great job. The story was fun and excellent and there was some great chemistry between the two. Its the second book in the Oxford series, but can be a standalone.

Jackson was a famous football player who got injured in a car accident and can no longer play, so he's working at a magazine in New York while trying to get a coaching job for his former team so he can be around the only thing he knows and loves-football. He's always been close with his former sister in law Mollie and now they they live in the same city they reconnect even more. Mollie has always has a crush on her former brother in law, even though he is older than she is they've always been able to talk about anything and have been an important part of each others lives. This is their love story with one very big obstacle in their way - Mollie's sister, Jacksons's former wife. I personally liked the book better on this one, but it's still a great audiobook!

a sweet friends to lovers story

well I enjoyed the dynamic between the two main characters, I do felt that some of the conflict was contrived and it wrapped up too quickly. I would have liked to see the hero put more effort forth to moving beyond his previous career.

Smart and sexy forbidden romance!

I really had my doubts about the premise of this story as I went into it. But I should have had more faith in Lauren Layne. Where I had feared I might have a problem buying into this forbidden romance, I found I had no trouble at all. It helped that Jackson and Molly were extremely likable. I felt like the touchy pieces were handled with care and so, my concerns on back-burner, I was able to completely enjoy this smart, witty, adorable love story.

Great story

I loved the story, but not fond of this narrator. Also, would have been better with duel narrators. It is still a good listen and well worth a credit.

I enjoyed the story

I loved the story, my only wish is that you could get a guy to do the Jackson part. I did not like to listen to the fairness of the guy's voice. it doesn't seem real in the performance
