Khalil Rafati went to Los Angeles in the 1990s and had it all. He was working with Hollywood movie stars and legendary rock musicians, but it wasn't long before he found his way into the dark underbelly of the City of Angels.

When he hit rock bottom - addicted to heroin and cocaine, overtaken by paranoia and psychosis, written off by his friends and family - he grabbed a shovel and kept digging. At 33, Khalil was 109 pounds, a convicted felon, high school dropout, and homeless junkie living on the infamous Skid Row in downtown L.A.

So how does someone with nothing, who feels like they deserve nothing, and who just wants to end it all turn their life around?

I Forgot to Die is an incredible true story of pain, suffering, addiction, and redemption - and how one man ultimately conquered his demons and wrote himself a new life story.

great story. the fact that the author tells it makes a huge difference. It is incredibly moving all the way trough. it caught me in the first page!

Moving.

Amazing story told beautifully by the author. It takes a lot to put it all out there so humbly and to walk down a road that I am sure is easier to leave in the past, but I am even more sure his words, lessons and humility will touch many struggling with addiction...so for that it was well worth it. This story personally hit home for me from a different perspective... from that of one who has struggled to understand addiction and watched it take those I love. It has given understanding to the struggles and humanized this epidemic of which is stealing souls, so for that I am grateful.

one of my favorite books being a heroin addict this book has helped me. I think every addict should listen to it.

The Best

I originally bought the book because I thought it was about an drug user
turned ultra runner. It isn't but it is so much better. The belief in God and faith in others and himself is amazing. I don't think I've listened to a book start to finish this quickly. I'm not a review writing kinda guy but this deserves all the praise. So glad I accidentally bought the book!

Jaw Dropping

It's not a new or unique story because it happens to so many every day. It's an important story that needs to be told over and over again. To some it will sound extreme, but it's a reality for a staggering number of people. Khalil did a fantastic job of sharing his experience, strength, and hope. While I do wish there was more of the solution and the hope, it served it's purpose. Some may say it glorifies addiction. To those people, I have to ask- if that's the case, then maybe we need to answer the question of why it does.

Inspirational

Amazing narration. I love when authors read their own. It's inspirational no matter your path, if you feel lost, or hopeless, or needing another sign that says blatantly, 'You can do it and you should'. I can and I will. Much Love, light, and appreciation all ways, always, to all. Thanks Khalil.

What a story

Khalil’s story hits close to home, as I have a brother in-law on the hard path. What and inspiring story. Love everything about it.

He had some lucky breaks along the way, but in the end he put the work in and made such a great success story. A great listen and a great man who overcame his demons.
