Originally published in the early 1960s, I Escaped from Auschwitz is the striking autobiography of none other than Rudolf Vrba himself. Vrba details his life leading up to, during, and after his escape from his 21-month internment in Auschwitz. Vrba and Wetzler manage to evade Nazi authorities looking for them and make contact with the Jewish council in Zilina, Slovakia, informing them about the truth of the "unknown destination" of Jewish deportees all across Europe. This first-hand report alerted Western authorities, such as Pope Pius XII, Winston Churchill, and Franklin D. Roosevelt, to the reality of Nazi annihilation camps - information that until then had only been recognized as nasty rumors.

Brutally honest account of humanity at its lowest. At the same time, a true hero rising and risking his own life to save countless others.

Remarkable courage

Amazing yet terrible story of the worst atrocities and hatred the human race has known. The story was well written and performed. It made me want to care about the people l come in contact with more. The petty things we get caught up on everyday are so meaningless compared to fighting every day just to live. Thanks Rudolph for fighting and then having the courage to save others and tell your story. May we all learn and do better to each other.

Well written and good listen

I enjoyed this title, at times I felt as if I were watching it happen. I applaud history being told this way, so that we do not repeat it again. G-d forbid.

An Important Read for All

All of humanity would do well to hear these stories and experiences. The narrator spoke well and while the subject matter most unpleasant, his voice was perfect.

We almost did not read this amazing story because of the reviews about the Narrator. The book was an excellent read and because of the narrator we believe it was even more impactful.

Excellent Book 10/10

This is the best book about the topic that I have ever read, and I read quite a lot of these. It is very interesting. Don’t pass it up.

The narrator

I have listened to quite a few Holocaust books, but none have affected me more than this. Mr Cohen’s narration was as if he was personally in Auschwitz’s prison camp. There was so much feeling and intonation expressed it made a tragic account more so.
