About this listen
**A Publisher's Weekly Bestseller**
From TikTok star Eli Rallo, an irreverent, laugh-out-loud funny, and searingly honest take on modern dating and romance with tips, tricks, and survival-guide style rules.
I Didn’t Know I Needed This is the dose of confidence every girl needs to live their life on their own terms. Eli Rallo is a social media superstar, a Carrie Bradshaw for the TikTok age, a true romantic at heart, and the best friend every young woman wishes she had. As someone who prides herself in feeling fully and deeply, Eli is on the ride with you, kissing the frogs, sending (and deleting) the risky DMs, climbing down frat house gutters, making the friends you’ll have for life, all while finding love and falling in love with yourself and learning that everything will be alright. In this earnest and vulnerable look at what it’s really like to date as a young woman in the modern world of dating apps, rotating rosters, and social media snafus, Eli gives her rules for each stage of the game—tried and true tricks of the trade.
I Didn't Know I Needed This follows the natural lifecycle of dating, starting with being single, flirting, and navigating the apps to going on dates, having sex, falling in love, and managing relationships, to finally dealing with heartbreak, finding closure, prioritizing your friends, and honoring your life. Discover the rules that have worked for her, and garnered her more than a half million TikTok followers:
- prep for a first date like an athlete before a big game
- try a person out in different settings before committing to them
- plan the second date while you’re out on the first
- find your perfect “eff me sweater”
- flirt with your partner, no matter how long you’ve been together
- give yourself a set mourning period to wallow after a breakup, and then stick to it
- always (always!) communicate your needs, wants, desires, and boundaries
- find little ways to love your life and treat yourself
With touching stories of her own adventures and mishaps, Eli helps you navigate dating in a way that’s frank, honest, funny, and relatable, giving the advice that you didn’t even know you needed.

Story
Our narrator should be happy, shouldn't she? She's young, thin, pretty, a recent Columbia graduate; she works an easy job at a hip art gallery and lives in an apartment on the Upper East Side of Manhattan paid for, like the rest of her needs, by her inheritance. But there is a dark and vacuous hole in her heart, and it isn't just the loss of her parents, or the way her Wall Street boyfriend treats her, or her sadomasochistic relationship with her best friend, Reva. It's the year 2000 in a city aglitter with wealth and possibility; what could be so terribly wrong?

Julia Fox is famous for many things: her captivating acting, such as her breakout role in the film Uncut Gems; her trendsetting style, including bleached eyebrows, exaggerated eyeshadow, and cutout dresses; her mastery of social media, where she entertains and educates her millions of followers. But all these share the trait for which she is most famous: unabashedly and unapologetically being herself. This commitment to authenticity has never been more on display than in Down the Drain. With writing that is both eloquent and accessible, Fox recounts her turbulent path to cultural supremacy.

Story
There's this weird gap in life that's fuelled by cheap tacos and even cheaper tequila - also known as our 20s. It's a specific limbo of being suspended between being a teenager and a 'Proper Adult' and though it's wildly confusing, often lonely, sometimes embarrassing and frequently daunting, there's also a whole lot of magic to be found in the chaos. It's a time when we're finding our own voices, cementing our relationships and starting to fulfil our big ambitions (or simply just working out what they are).

Story
Foregoing motherhood has traditionally marked a woman as “other.” With no official place setting for her in our society, she has hovered on the sidelines: the quirky girl, the neurotic career obsessive, the “eccentric” aunt. Instead of continuing to paint women without kids as sad, self-obsessed, or somehow dysfunctional, what if we saw them as boldly forging a first-in-a-civilization vision for a fully autonomous womankind? Or as journalist and thought leader Ruby Warrington asks, What if being a woman without kids were in fact its own kind of legacy?

Lucas knows the perfect night entails just three things: video games, wine, and pad thai. Peanuts are a must! Other people? Not so much. Why complicate things when he’s happy alone? Then one day the apartment board, a vexing trio of authority, rings his doorbell. And Lucas’s solitude takes a startling hike. They demand to see his frying pan. Someone left one next to the recycling room overnight, and instead of removing the errant object, as Lucas suggests, they insist on finding the guilty party. But their plan backfires. Colossally.

Really cute for 20-something girls :)
Overall, a really cute book that I would’ve loved to have listened to in college. The lists are great, the stories are fun, but there were a few lines that were repetitive to the point where I was like “wait did I accidentally click on a previous chapter?”
Aside from that, definitely worth the read. Would be a lovely gift for any young women in your life who are in or entering college - they don’t yet know that they needed this, too.

The big sister I have always wished for!
Eli is so fun, refreshing, relatable, and real. She gives so much good advice and has a good perspective on life. I relate to this content so much as a 29 year old who is going on 30. Eli is so full of great stories where she feels like the big sister I have been missing (as an oldest child). I can’t wait for the next book 👏🏻

Eli puts into words what I never could
This book is so relatable to so many. It’s a true story of going out to the world for your first time on your own and navigating relationships. From trying ti fit into a box to finding yourself Eli discusses it all with personal stories that will touch your heart. I highly recommend this book for girls anywhere from high school to post grad!

Witty and helpful
I liked hearing her personal stories and growth. I took some notes for myself! I wish it went in chronological order and/or a descriptive glossary list of all the men/friends mentioned as I got lost a few times. Overall, a good “read”!

Exceeded my expectations!
I love Eli, I’ve been following her lists and her inspiring content on TikTok from the beginning so her book was a must for me. Beautifully written, she’s wrapped up the comfort, support and tough love of the friend we all need with this one.

Poorly Read
Poorly read, robotic, and stale, so I cannot follow the dialogue or make a judgment about the quality of the book.
