About this listen

Mallory killed her boyfriend, Brian. She can't remember the details of that night but everyone knows it was self-defense, so she isn't charged. But Mallory still feels Brian's presence in her life. Is it all in her head? Or is it something more? In desperate need of a fresh start, Mallory is sent to Monroe, a fancy prep school where no one knows her . . . or anything about her past. But the feeling follows her, as do her secrets. Then, one of her new classmates turns up dead. As suspicion falls on Mallory, she must find a way to remember the details of both deadly nights so she can prove her innocence-to herself and others. In another riveting tale of life and death, Megan Miranda's masterful storytelling brings readers along for a ride to the edge of sanity and back again.

Good story. Narrator is kind of annoying

The story was good. Keeps you guessing. The narrator swallows allot and is nasally in some parts.

Good ideas but I didn't enjoy the execution

I found it hard to follow in audio format as it jumps in time. The story os very mysterious and spooky at times.

Character driven suspense

What did you love best about Hysteria?

The way the author dropped a few clues here and there along the way but still kept us in the dark about what happened right up to the end.

What about Holly Fielding’s performance did you like?

She did a good job throughout the book.

Any additional comments?

Megan Miranda has written a suspenseful story, focusing on the main character's inner journey. The secondary characters are three dimentional and interesting.

Struggled!

I struggled through this entire audiobook. Not sure why I didn't just give up. I definitely did not love the story... and I don't feel like there was real closure on the Brian situation. Also, the Jason stuff wasn't exactly explained through the best so i feel like Swiss cheese with missing info all speckled through me. The narration would have been fine if I hadn't heard her swallow or speak with a dry mouth.

Where will Megan go next with this story?

I loved this book! Holly did a great job with the narrating. At times it sounded like different people, which really makes the experience just that much greater! The story was great and the character development was amazing. I felt like the story could've ended where it did. I felt there wasn't really any unfinished business, but at the same time, I can't wait to see where Megan will go next with this story!

Hysteria

Very interesting story and characters. Lots of twisted thoughts in the minds of young people.

Meh

To get away from publicity after stabbing her abusive boyfriend to death, Mallory is sent to Monroe, a boarding school. She begins hallucinating and developing strange marks on her body. Then a boy is found dead in her dorm. Is someone gas-lighting Mallory, to is she not who she claims to be.

HYSTERIA started with such a strong premise, but the execution fell flat. If I just killed my abusive boyfriend, the last thing I'd do a few weeks later is kiss a new guy and start dating. I would certainly hope some adult would insist I get therapy. I also didn't believe all the teens at the school would ostracize Mallory after finding out about her stabbing her abusive boyfriend. More teens have empathy than are sociopathic.

I enjoyed Mallory's relationship with her BFF, even if they didn't always make the best choices. Everyone should have a friend as loyal as Colleen.

What the ...

I love mysteries. I love good twists. I love tricky clues and writing.. this was none of that. SPOILERS: (kinda) I still have no clue about Brian. It was so convoluted. So unorganized in the way this unfolded.. And what the what with Jason.. and why all that happened. I heard it, I get what they say happened.. it just wasn’t believable. Was the point to make the reader hysterical with annoyance? I usually like Megan Miranda, but lately it’s like every other book is good. Really disappointed with this one. Reader was good. Did the best with the oddity of this unorganized story.

Hard to follow - unorganized

I have ADD and I will admit that sometimes I have to rewind and listen again bc I've spaced out.
With Hysteria, I had a lot of moment in which I thought I had missed something. But I didn't, the story was just unorganized and missed some details to properly connect the book. I still cant figure out exactly what happened during some of those events.
