Hated the narrator.

Any additional comments?

It is a good, fun story, but the narration drove me crazy. He was good at the lesser characters, but on his Devon voice, the inflection was all wrong. You'd think doom was coming at every turn.

the story is good.

I like this series. But I do need to tell anyone who reads this to speed the narration up quite a bit. if you do that then his voice doesn't have time to do the annoying way over dramatic things he does. It makes a huge difference.

Sort of a grown up Harry Potter/Maltese Falcon

Interesting premise characters developed nicely.
Narrator had good character voices and was enjoyable to listen too.
I'd read more in a series.

Story ok-Performance one-dimensional

Would you listen to Hungry Earth again? Why?

If I had the option of listening to Hungry Earth again I'm not sure I would. One of the reasons to continue with a second book is to see how the character grows. The story line does give you growth but it is subverted by a single-dimensional performer that only speaks with one (noir PD) voice to express all emotions. I may just buy the book to read instead of the audio version because the performer actually subtracts from the material rather than adds to it.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Hungry Earth?

The acquisition of the earth elemental working knowledge was one of the more satisfying moments in the story.

What three words best describe Todd Menesses’s performance?

One-dimensional, noir, boring

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Naptime

A Hair Raising Good Time!

Rain Oxford has done it again! I have really come to enjoy all of Rain's work and Hungry Earth, Elemental Book 2 is no different. I had to take a few days longer to listen that I had expected because it does get a little creepy... Hehe... But that's what makes her writing so great. This book is another in a series and I definitely recommend that you try to start from the beginning in order to keep up with the storyline. But, you can absolutely start out of order if you pick this one up and realize that you haven't heard the other books in the series, yet.

I don't want to spoil anything because I suspect that there are more parts in this series to come after that ending(!!!), but Todd Menesses does such a great job voicing all of the characters. The many, many memorable characters Rain includes in the book. It's such a great, entertaining experience to listen in audio book format. I'm sure that I would love this one if I were reading it in Kindle format, but the book lends itself to audio book format so well I would definitely suggest picking it up for easy, on the go listening.

If you like the paranormal and a great mystery, you don't want to miss this one!

Great book, great series

But of the 5 books in the series, only the first 2 are audiobooks. 😖

loved every second

Would you listen to Hungry Earth again? Why?

Yes I will be listening to it again! I love supernatural stories and this one is well written and I enjoy listening to this narrator. I hope there are more books in this series.

Have you listened to any of Todd Menesses’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes I have, this is just as good as his other performances. I hope to find more from him. I enjoy listening to him. He's easy to listen to and follow and understand what is happening in the book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No it was not a book you want to listen to in one sitting. It's far to long, I recommend this over a span of 5-8 days if you are trying to rush it. I like to enjoy my books and typically on the way to work or lunch breaks.

Any additional comments?

This book is a lot like harry potter meets twilight crossed with a mystery. I am overly excited to have book two in audio and I hope there are more in the works. The elemental series is well written and captivating to the point you don't want to turn off the story to go to bed, you want to keep listening find out what happens next. I especially love that they are at a school for supernatural adults and I wish I had powers of some sort and be written into the story, just wake up and be IN the story.

Good continuation from the first book.

If I had to say, ifronuld be my opinion that the first and second book in his series were written pretty much at the same time. I am looking forward to a third book?

First Time I Listened Twice

I have hundreds of audiobooks. This book is the first book I've listened to twice. And I will go to the first book and listen to that one again after writing this review. These two books in this series are well written and the best narration of wit and fantasy drama. The voice, the plot, the creatures... all hit me perfect.
